I don't want to be a champion anymore

Being a hero and legend in my own mind was cool but really… Been there. Done that. Too many times.

Next expansion let’s fall from grace.

Let us screw up so massively in the initial quest we become pariah to the point where there is a warrant for our arrest, formally friendly NPC’s are now neutral and potentially hostile and formally neutral npc’s are now hostile, but with the odd benefit of some formally hostile npc’s being neutral. I’m not saying that I as a gnome should be able to walk down Main St, Orgrimaar unmolested but some former horde villages might accept me.

Got to hit the road running and where will our road to redemption take us?

  • Back to our original faction with all forgiven becoming its champion again?
  • To the other faction but at best partially accepted (you could never rise above friendly rep with occasional mistreatment and mistrust) and fully branded a traitor to our original faction?
  • Or to what’s behind door #3? Which for original Horde could be following Sylvanus and for original alliance could be following Tyrande and Genn in their pursuit of total vengeance against Sylvanus?

And yes, you will get spit on, insulted, attacked and jail is a possibility.

I was the general of the Horde expedition to AU Draenor in WoD and the Highlord of the Knights of the Silver Hand in Legion. Now I feel like a murder hobo again. A very well-dressed murder hobo.

If what happens with the Heart of Azeroth and N’Zoth’s release turns to the worst, I definitely expect we players to end up shouldering a great deal of blame. The “Champion” thing was treated well in Legion because we were supposed to be above the conflicts of small things like nations. We were chosen, proven agents for the preservation of our planet. Now we’ve been dragged back down to the muck of Red vs Blue, most of us tugging our collars the whole way as we’re railroaded into terrible things. If we were all really there at the burning of Teldrassil, we would’ve loaded Sylvanas into the catapult instead, watched her go pif against the side of the tree, and gone back to Dalaran where things like common sense are on tap.

I’m afraid that they will not accept you. Especially Trolls.

I agree with your suggestion though, I would love to be able to ally with the Scarlet Crusade as I share many of their values. I would also consider communicating with Goblins.

Up to the challenge of becoming a despised and disgraced murder hobo?

The fact is we will always be a hero because nothing gets done without us.

I wouldn’t mind settling down into a home, maybe taking up some woodcrafting and opening my own antiques/restorations shop.

I mean, I want player housing and woodcrafting. I’ve saved the world so many times, let me retire already.

After we defeat the old gods and/or initiate re-origination of course.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could switch into a costume that helps hide your identity. Maybe appear like an ordinary citizen, but still get the chance of being recognized if you get too close to a guard or vip in town.

insert race commoner”, as a tag? Sounds fun. Maybe an excuse to put together some very generic looking transmog outfits, too.

My issue is less that we are acknowledged for our heroics than we have ushered in an age of HyperGod Champion Turbo Z. It has blown holes through the lore and disintegrated any sense of proportion in storytelling.

Archimonde initially required the combined might of most of the world’s surviving armies to SLOW DOWN. We’ve now killed him toe-to-toe twice. The Burning Legion lost their teeth, the story conveyed no threat at all with the expansion devoted to them.

Us constantly struggling directly with cosmic forces is just dumb. And worse, when we ultimately prevail, you end up closing the door on whatever huge swath of setting lore was dedicated to the baddies in question.

Tl;dr: We can be heroic without punching out Gods and Titans every week.

No offense but none of it sounds worth playing through.

Don’t need another excuse for the devs/“writers” to insult the players through storyline anyway.

Whelp, when they find out I was loyal to Sylvanas thatll prob be my fall from grace rofl

Here I am the Grand Champion of Azeroth but, I can’t get this damn bird to fly in Kul Tiras. /sigh

This is already in the game, don’t take any quests that are asking for the champion of the horde/alliance/Azeroth and there you go. You are now just a random hero wandering the world that no one really cares about or invites to the cool cinematics.

This is soooo not in the game.

This isn’t the “you’re not a chamption”, this is a “you’re a traitor scum and when I catch you, you’ll get a fair trial and a fair hanging”

And you need to decide where your allegiance lies.
Will you go the anti-hero route? (loyal to sylvanus-the-evil, tyrande-the-avenger)
Will you clear your name?
Will you say “screw you guys, I’m going over there”?
