I don't understand how I'm supposed to have fun with this game

What am I supposed to do in your game to have fun Blizzard?

Leveling sure isn’t it
It’s just a menial chore now you have to do to be allowed to play the “real” game - that you can pay to skip.
With heirlooms taking up most of my gear slots, all content warping around me so that I’m always the same power level relative to the mobs I’m facing, professions no longer having ANY reason to be leveled while leveling save gathering exp, and abilities and talents only showing their face once in a blue moon it feels like I’m just spinning my wheels in the mud until a number gets to 120. It’s like cookie clicker but with more complex clicking. There is no sense of real growth or progress.

It also can’t be end game character progression. In a lot of ways it’s just like normal leveling. All gear feels the same, and I never “feel” my power growth considering I’m always pushed to do the next scaled difficulty of the instances. There is no logic to what content rewards what gear with the best gear I’m likely to get coming from random chests with loot tables miles long or randomly handed to me from world bosses. It’s just like leveling, I feel like you want me to just play the game so that a number goes up - and instead of levels it’s now ilvl and the amount of exp content gives me is now both random and very much temporary.

Is it raiding? dungeons? Pvp? I certainly don’t care about the gear they drop but is it just the sheer act of doing them that I’m supposed to find my fun in?
I hate to break it to you, but a 15 year old tab targeting engine isn’t exactly the pinnacle of engaging game play. It’s not exactly bad (although BFA certainly made it worse) , but without the context of it’s rpg structures wow’s 15 year old tab targeting engine can’t exactly keep up with other games.

Is it making friends? You certainly seem to be doing everything in your power to stop that from happening. You removed every reason to even speak to another human being in an MMO up until you want to get into a normal raid or rated pvp. I’m not making friends because of wow, I’m making them despite wow.

Really, I’m not sure what you’re expecting me to do.

Honestly if that’s the thread title then the answer is simple: nobody here can tell YOU how YOU are supposed to have fun with anything in life.

World PVP at 120, maybe? Although it’s not easy to keep in touch with the friends you make.

Mythic raid progression seems to be as interesting as progression raiding ever was, though if you’re not into that I don’t blame you.

Yeah selling a bunch of stuff on the store and then the real game pvp and pve has issues. or skip content with a boost. skip grinding a mount with a purchase. its gross.

Maybe you’re having fun complaining on the forums. If you aren’t having fun in the game, perhaps this isn’t the game for you?

Why are you playing an rpg if you don’t enjoy leveling or gearing?

Professions can still be useful for toys/mounts/cosmetics… also some people just like doing them.

Yeah, it’s tab targeted, that’s not going to change.

Find another game… probably another genre.

Your mistake is thinking this is an RPG anymore.
Leveling and Gearing are a lot of fun when they represent actual character growth.

It’s still an rpg. If you’re going to complain, at least make specific points, maybe even suggestions.

I feel like you want me to just play the game so that a number goes up - and instead of levels it’s now ilvl and the amount of exp content gives me is now both random and very much temporary.

I’m certain that this is how stats are supposed to work in any MMO.

That said, the purpose of playing is something you really just find in yourself. I enjoy PvP, and coming to the forums to read about and discuss WoW. Raiding is also there.

Have you ever played WoW? Sounds like you are talking yourself out of playing. Which is fine.

The key points of an rpg are character growth, and character customization.
Lets look at leveling.
You are always the same power level relative to the world or dungeon you’re in.
You aren’t in any way threatened by the world and only have a few gear slots open, so gear is rarely even an option, and the power change means nothing.
There are no vectors outside of level to progress on. Previous xpac prof skill is mostly meaningless, gold can’t get you anything of value before max level, and weapon skill no longer exists.
There is also no way to build your character in a different direction. You aren’t growing, and you aren’t customizing. It’s not an rpg.

In fact, this is the only “rpg” I’ve ever played where you get weaker as you level (see level 110-120).

It’s just an MMO. The RPG side died long ago.

You’re not expected to have fun anymore. You’re expected to log in as much as possible to fulfill Blactivision’s MAU requirements. That’s all this accountant-created application is designed for.

It’s not a game, it’s just a gambling simulator marketed to minors. But who cares, right? It’s just a game.

Blactivision stopped caring about whether or not you are having fun years ago. Now all it cares about is whether or not you are subscribed, what microtransactions they can successfully manipulate you into paying additional money for, and if they can count you among their MAUs.

Blactivision thinks that as long as you’re playing, it’s done its job. Blizzard doesn’t stop to think that people are only playing for the upgrades, or the random toy loot, and not because they’re actually having fun.

It’s honestly sad.

If you care about your well-being at all you’ll quit and never look back. This isn’t a game anymore. It’s just a marketing tool that you pay for.

My advice would be to just step away for awhile and try out some other games. I’m reducing my game time by quite a bit until we get flying.
