I’ve seen people discussing that WoW requires too many addons just to play the base game. Personally, I prefer using the vanilla UI and try to make the new UI match it using the in-game editor. I don’t use WeakAuras, DBM, or any other addons that effect gameplay. At most, I use Raider. IO to find groups and details to track my dps. Nevertheless, I have achieved Keystone Hero 2500, 2,100 pvp score multiple seasons, and Ahead of the Curve in raids.
However, I do rely on a Razer Naga mouse for WoW as it greatly enhances my gameplay.
Q: That said, I don’t understand the players POV who use a ton of addons and a complicated UI. If you’d please enlighten me to why I’d be interested to hear it.
Because I hate how the default UI looks and functions so I installed ElvUI to make my UI somewhat unique.
That being said Elvui does conflict with some pvp addons, but I usually only pvp the first or second week of a season excluding this expansion because mmr has sucked.
Probably quiting pvp soon so I don’t much care if it overlaps my addons lol
only downside i have had playing WoW is i removed strafe so when it comes to PvP yes i am literally working harder since i cannot strafe easily. outside of that PvE content i have had no issues.
I don’t use any add-ons and I’m working my way up content just fine. Healed my first m+ last night and cleared it in 10 minutes. Also last season I got to 1600 rating as a frost DK in shuffle with zero add-ons. Cleared all of LFR as heals easily. The game isn’t that hard, and things have become much more readable lately.
DBM - for voice commands because of my limited eyesight. And for skipping cutscenes I’ve already seen. Handynotes - for finding a lot of stuff that isn’t provided on the mini-map yet. ilevel - because for some reason the base ui does not provide this. Inventorian - Bagnon had stopped working so I switched to it. MaxCam - it keeps the cam where it needs to be for instances. Moveany - because there are still things that I cannot move in the base UI such as enemy cast bars, nor make them bigger. TomTom - I’m not sure why this one isn’t in the base ui yet. Underlight angler auto - so that it switches to that when I’m under water. TomCat’s Tours - Just does a better job of tracking in game events. WQT - Because World quest tracking sucks in the base UI. Leatrix Maps - For unlocking the map frame Leatrix Plus - for several things like muting certain sounds, making DR quieter, hiding the professions gear (since that bugs out sometimes).
Ones I don’t really need but come in handy:
Better Wardrobe and Transmog - because base ui does not track outdoor or dungeon mogs Mount Journal Enhanced - extended filters, display hidden mounts, resizing the window, better mount display, etc. Rematch - for pet battling Titan Panel - For listing all the currencies I’m prioritizing at a glance and keeping track of the token price. Rarescanner - Convenient for knowing which rares are up when.
You probably don’t need them, sure. But I would probably have a heart attack healing without some sort of addon. Not because it would be impossible but just because I’ve used one for QoL for so long that getting rid of it would just be odd. It’s all doable, but I think some of us may just be creatures of habit at this point.
I only use 1 raiding addon, Soundtrack (add my own music, just to customize), TRP 3, and Map Pin instant and distance and Map Button Bag (which makes all the map buttons go into a drop down menu so it’s not so cluttered.)
