Something that pop-up in my head after looking at the foruns for some time, its that people relate being a troll in the foruns by the following rules:
-> I dont like your idea therefore you are trolling
-> You have an unpopular opinion about something/you dont agree with the big mass population opinion direction about something
-> Your way of thinking does not fit what i think its right/better/wrong for the game/anything, and im always right! if you disagree then you are wrong and therefore are just trolling
and why did i bring this topic? 2 reasons, first its because it would be something interesting to debate, and second reason its because i think even the whole flag/moderator stuff we have on foruns follows the problem i just listed and are not doing its job the correct way, i saw many people who did not made an agressive thread by any means but because his thread opinion was unpopular it got flagged and actually banned because of it, and this happens many times.
My favorite trolls are the ones that think trolling is when you act as stupid as possible and then when someone calls them out for being stupid theyâre like âgotcha! I was trolling! hur hur hurâ
I guess making people think youâre stupid is a worthy past time?
Personnaly, for me being a troll on the forum is just not being constructive in any way. Posts that mostly serve more to divide/insult part of the community are mostly trolling for me. There is some âgoodâ trolling, we can call it banter or snarks as long as itâs done in a tasteful/playful way that I feel is welcome, but âbadâ trolling is probably what should be reported if youâre the kind of people that report posts.
Trolling can be multiple things nowadays, a joke. Seriously, some people literally think joking is a troll. Something I disagree with, my opinion is objectively correct and yours is objectively wrong. Therefore your post is bait. A good troll however is the troll that gets people heated without them thinking it is a troll.
It doesnât help that if you look under the flagging options, Blizzard themselves misuses the term âtrollingâ. Apparently, if I upset you by annihilating you in an argument, itâs trolling now.
Most people that I saw getting reported in an argument is because they went too far on the personnal attack level or with a global generalization with something often worse than just an harmless
True trolling is an art form. You just donât see many people dedicated to the art anymore because they moved on or grew up. The fact that trolling is conflated with so many other things is in fact the ultimate troll.
The true trolls of the early-mid 00âs made their mark on history, and I commend them for that. Even if that mark is forgotten in the annals of history, the art will live on to those who truly study it.
Even then, itâs super care-bearish. I think you should be allowed to be a bit scathing, especially if someoneâs clearly uneducated about what they are talking about, as long as itâs not like an all caps swearing match, of course, lol.
I like a lot about this game, and good trolling is an art form that I appreciate. Sadly, most troll posts nowadays are 4/10 at best. I want to be surprised! I want to re-read in disbelief. I want to go âooooooOOOOâ and then âOh my!â and then âNnnnhmm!â and then laugh for 7 minutes. Trolling is underappreciated because of all the low-quality trolling going on nowadays.
Another thing Iâve noticed is that trolling and spamming have become two of the same kind. Spamming, to me, is making 10 new topics filled with random ideas. Rudeness goes into the spamming category in my book, because thatâs not for anybody. Trolling, IMO, is making a delightfully humorous topic that makes everybody leave laughing.
Now, I donât make troll posts very often. Maybe one a year. But I have to say that out of the four âtrollâ posts Iâve made, this one is my favorite. I helped people laugh and have fun and that made me happy.
