I can’t be the only one who really dislikes touch of the magi. It feels very unsatisfying and clunky. Really wish it was replaced with something that at least had some semblance of visual feedback. Or just straight up delete it since it adds like 3 hours to arcane ramp up time. It’s just…gross.
If you’re kyrian I can definitely understand that frustration especially at low haste levels. I’ll even admittedly say that without Mark of Aluneth it does feel like something is off with it.
Me saying this isn’t me wanting it removed, but just saying it does feel off additionally with low haste levels.
I think it should only have a 30 second cooldown
the damage is ridiculous
Should get a talent or legendary that lets you preload damage into it similar to how the Infinity Cord allowed Arcane Missile casts to buff Mark of Aluneth in Legion.
I treated that like a Plasma Grenade in PvP. Cast MoA, RoP, AP, Ice Block the enemy’s damage and watch them POP. (World PvP)
It’s not what I’d call exciting, but it is what it is and it could be worse.
Simple fix would be to take it off the GCD and remove the cast time, then it wouldn’t feel awful to use.
Totm has always felt like a slow and ckunky version of prismatic crystal
I like TotM. It casts just the slightest bit quicker than a 4 charge blast, grants a free barrage, and it’s damage can be amped up so that it hits MUCH harder than a 4 charge blast. For free. Also, it’s AoE effect is significant. Not much to not like about it, honestly.
I don’t mind it by itself, though it is a bit underwhelming. In AoE it feels pretty good once you factor in things like barrage, arcane orb, and shifting power.
Where I rather dislike it is single target. There have been plenty of times where attempting to build three, or even just two, stacks of clearcasting to use with ToTM saw me spent 100-150% of my mana bar.
When used as Kyrian with harmony I liked how it basically let me tell the clearcasting RNG god to get lost. Too bad it traded that for the RNG of whether or not it crit. The buildup of stacked powers reminded me too much of the meme that was alpha or beta Shadowlands arcane burn.
Agreed.
TotM is lame. It has no real visual effect. It’s just another button you press to get a bit more damage. It doesn’t feel rewarding to use at all. Arcane is lacking enough in visual effects already. It certainly doesn’t help giving us another CD with no visual effect.
It also sucks to use with Kyrian if your haste is low.
Legion was fantastic, but the game has been on a steady decline since then. BFA and Shadowlands are pretty poorly executed expansions.
I get the feeling that the Blizzard devs seem to have lost touch with what makes for fun gameplay. It feels like the devs are just going through the motions, trying to milk a tried and true formula as long as they can. But they’ve lost the spark of innovation that let them try new things that actually worked and made for a better game.
For almost all of WoW’s history, it was the top MMO in the world in terms of subscriber base and monthly active users. But recently it lost its crown and and is now second place. I can kind of see why.
I still don’t get the OP’s gripe. It has as much visual feedback as any Warlock dot while accumulating damage, and explodes in possibly the coolest visual effect you can imagine an arcane mage putting on the target.
It’s damage isn’t weak. It lines up with RoP… Consider upfront payment for it in damage the ABarr, getting screwed out of RoP burst isn’t TotM’s fault. Last time I saw this talent it was a random proc.
Now that was gross
And I’m sorry, but not having 3 clearcasts stacked for TotM, it’s like complaining about the scratcher machine being broken after you bought 7 losing tickets. “FIX IT NOW, DAMNIT!”
It’s a gambler’s gripe. “I totally understand, but while I went away to fix it, you followed me like a hound and lost your place in line.” lol, jk, that howling dog would totally be put back to the front of the line, but… do you get it?
It’s like how about TotM gives you an incentive to SPEND MANA on Arcane’s highest DPS spell, on a CD, and you can spam CC after? Arcane Echo was nerfed a year ago, it was a thrill-ride for new talents in SL beta.
I think the explosion looks decent. I like the detail, and not everything has to be blinding and massive to look nice. The application visual could be better. Some kind of rune that pulses with each application of damage, or grows in brightness as damage is building, would add a visual display match what it is doing.
This bit looks to be aimed at me, and I wish I had not wasted my time reading the rambling mess.
Sorry, it was a bit of a rambling mess, but I assure you it wasn’t aimed at anybody. And it was for illustrative purposes: Sure, there’s a $500 ticket in that roll, you just maybe end up spending $750 getting it.
That’s how the “meta” of dumping CC into TotM felt to me, right from the start. Huh. That’s fun. But to point at that being the goal of an Arcane rotation, and complain about low damage… hmm. It’s fun and janky, but not optimized play.
I’d like it more if it was instacast. I see no real purpose behind making it an actual cast. It’s touch of the magi, as in touch then let go, not let me caress you softly for 1-2 seconds of the magi
I like it
It’s funny when people think they survived my burst only to have Touch of the Magi smash down and finish them off
I wouldn’t mind if it got a visual makeover though
LOL
Thank you, I needed a laugh today
