Please just get rid of it, it’s not particularly fun, it seems like a solution in search of a problem to justify it’s own existence.
Why does kill shot have these conditionals? Why not just get a deathblow proc and send like you used to. It’s not like it hits harder anyway, KS was nerfed in order to make space for this worthless new ability. Or at least it definitely feels this way, as ks doesn’t seem to hit much harder than before this patch, but even if it did, it’s not a very fun ability regardless.
Also, deathblow only stacks to 1, so that’s another blow to this ability.
That’s nothing honestly, aimed shot hits harder anyway, and this change came at the expense of base kill shot damage, it’s just a worse proc than before with more complications.
Reposting what I said about Headshot in another thread. The most misunderstood talent.
As long as you don’t use this talent, I will be doing more damage than you by a lot considering we are on the same item level. I guarantee it. And the new Dark Ranger changes tomorrow will drastically amplify your loss.
Do you seriously think that this thread point is about headshot performance?
Yea it is a dps gain compared to every other talent choice in that row, but that makes it worse, not better, because there really is no escaping this talent, if you don’t talent it, you lose a lot of st damage, because now unbuffed kill shot with just razor frag buff is trash.
The reason for this thread isn’t to complain about headshot lack of damage, the first and most important point is that this talent is just not fun.
They took kill shot, nerfed it, and then put that damage in headshot.
How anyone is defending this ability is beyond me, both from a gameplay and design prospective.
I would be fine with kill shot doing the same as before as long as headshot is fun, but it isn’t.
I also disagree with you on that point. It makes it more exciting because you have to make snap decisions to fire Arcane Shot or Kill Shot. With practice, you are a winner. And the fun factor will start to set in. I do agree that it is not fun to do something you are not use to because the learning curve is pretty high after the revamp.
The proc happens at the same time the shot is fired, so unless you can literally react in 0.001 seconds, basically how long it takes for the server to process the data, you are not doing any “reaction”
And for some reason i doubt you have below microsecond reactions times, just a hunch…
The only thing you can do is use it on the next ability and be fast enough to use the proc before you potentially get another one, basically it’s garbage gameplay. Not only does it add a secondary conditional to an ability that used to hit like a normal proc, but the fact that deathblow doesn’t have a second charge, makes this even worse.
It’s not not fun because it’s hard, it’s not fun because it’s a bad interaction.
actually, i get a lot of procs while casting and channeling so i don’t know where you get .001 second reaction time. i think you don’t like the talent so much you have not played the talent or only played it a few times. you need more samples of the game play yourself to actually tell facts.
With rapid fire you get it at the start of the channel, the issue is, rapid also doesn’t generate precise shot stacks, unless you get the talent. Which you should not because it’s a single stack, and it’s not good enough.
For aimed shot which is the important part you get it after the cast, which means that unless your reaction time is literally inhuman, you will always use headshot in the next cycle.
Look, you’re trying really hard to defend this trash, but it’s not working.
The fact that you essentially handwaved away the simple realization that it’s not possible to react to the proc when it actually matters tells me all i need to know about your “argument”.
Be gone now, nobody buys the stuff you’re peddling.
I’ve been leveling my Marksmanship Hunter and gearing him in this patch the last few days. I was noticing how horrible Kill Shot damage was feeling with my build until I sat down and read every single talent individually, and realized all the modifying talents there are which prop up Kill Shot now.
I was playing with another (admittedly bad) build and I’d get a Kill Shot proc or even just an execute proc and fire it expecting it to finish an enemy like how it would before the spec rework, and it literally does like non-Precise Shots Arcane Shot damage now. It’s horrendous.
TL;DR
Kill Shot’s base damage needs a big buff. I would cut down on the modifying talents somehow, and increase Deathblow’s proc rate baseline as well. It would be like playing Warrior and your Execute attack hits as hard as a Slam. Who thought this was a good idea?
It would be more acceptable if it was fun, but it’s literally a worse proc than before.
Now instead of just worrying about deathblow, you have to worry about headshot too, and for what?? It’s not interesting, it’s not fun, and it doesn’t even hit harder than before.
Yeah and I agree that using your 2 stacks of Precise Shots on Kill Shot really isn’t as fun as they thought it would be. It’s like you feel almost required to use the stacks on Kill Shot now or else you feel like you messed up your rotation. It was just fine when Arcane Shot (and Multi Shot) consumed these stacks. Kill Shot doesn’t need the weird inverse rotational effect this change brought into it.
My gripe with headshot and dark ranger MM is, you want to spend your precise shots on black arrow, but black arrow also benefits from trickshot, so when you want to cleave black arrow you have to hit multi shot first, which uses your precise shot buff, and you miss out on buffing black arrow.
Yep. It’s just a really weird talent. I’ve been using Aspect of the Hydra, and while it’s not better technically, the AoE loss isn’t outrageous. I prefer cleave damage anyway as a Frost Mage player that likes Splitting Ice. Volley with Salvo, and also Precision Detonation talented are majorly good for moments of burst DPS instead of Trick Shots for me. I just prefer to minimize the jank in the rotation.
