I don't get why people are mad

Portable Diablo reveal,
Doesn't bug me at all.

I have characters named after Diablo II elements. (Hellforge)
Played all the Diablo's. I'm 50, have been playing Blizz games forever.

I have thought to myself that the system would lend itself well to tablet. You basically click to move, loot, and fight. I will probably at least try it even though I didn't like 3 much, and didn't give it a second chance beyond launch.
2 was legendary.

I have played several games David Brevik went on to, including a few failed beta's simply for a love of the Diablo design. And he always seems to be attempting to recreate elements of it in his games.
Why the hostility? I want to check it out and see if I like it or not.

Because they were hyping up some huge Diablo-related release to their core audience of PC gamers only for it to... not be very huge and not very interesting to most PC gamers.

Nothing wrong with liking it, but people are mad that they threw this in front of a crowd of PC gamers at Blizzcon and didn't bother to throw them a bone.

Whether that was greed or a lack of thought on their part is up for debate. I'd honestly go with a little bit of both. I'm...not entirely sure why they thought they could get away with a mobile reveal and nothing else at Blizzcon though. It baffles me.

I'd agree that the ambiguity with which they hinted Immortal was stupid and lacked foresight.
I'd also agree that the lack of at least a teaser for D4 as reassurance that they haven't forgotten their core PC Diablo fanbase was stupid and lacked foresight.

I just don't understand why people are mad about the existence of a mobile game.

Why would you make a reskin of a game from a meh mobile company using the Diablo IP and then make some snarky comments to a playerbase that couldnt care less about mobile gaming? It doesnt make any sense especially a for a company that lacks self awareness, is out of touch with its players and is affiliated with Activision.

The last real content addition to Diablo was Reaper of Souls, which came out over 4 years ago. Imagine WoW getting WoD and nothing else after that, well, other than a mobile app...
the sad thing is, they are working on what we would consider the 'good stuff', its was just not part of he show. we took the fact that Diablo was first up at Blizzcon as proof of some huge news. By the time Blizzard put on the brakes, we had already sped down most of the mountain, and there was no way to stop.
The ragers are angry because they wanted something for PC.

They're not interested in a mobile game, they didn't want a mobile game, and they feel like the mobile game somehow takes away from development of the thing they DO want.
To be fair there are a lot of people that play hearthstone on tablet.
Blizz already has a mobile market. Not to mention all those posts you see about mobile ah apps etc.. "I play the action house from work" stuff like that.
There are definitely going to be a lot of people playing it.
I get why Diablo players are mad.

Wow players upset though, are upset because they want to be.

How can you make such an assertion when you don't know the state of the game, since instead of playing you just post here all day?
Because it is like going to a steakhouse and then getting served a plate of tofu?

^ pretty much this.

I'm not against the idea of mobile diablo themed game. I don't play a lot of mobile games so it doesn't particularly interest me. But it's existence doesn't offend me.

The problem is, they hyped it for the wrong audience. The West heard the hype and their desire/hopes for Diablo 4 were peaked. That is what they're waiting for. That is why Blizz was booed on stage when they announced this. Had they gone with this hype and reveal in the East, it would have been much better received. I think the game will be a success. Just not in the West. Mobile is pretty huge in the East though and I think they'll be all over this.

Being a big huge hyped up Blizz con announcement was honestly a bad move. I don't think it would have been this poorly received if it wasn't the big diablo reveal at Blizzcon. They should have waited until D4 was being announced before having a big diablo reveal at there. All this did was play one everyones hopes of a D4 (or even new D3 content) which led to a feeling of huge disappointment when it's a game the audience has no real interest in. They should have had a big Con and revealed Mobile Diablo in the East.

In a nutshell. I don't think it's a terrible thing for them to make, it'll likely be successful. But this does show that they're pretty out of touch with a lot of their fanbase

This.

The Diablo what's next panel was slated immediately after the opening ceremony, that's the primo slot after your initial announcements because everything is still fresh in the audience's mind.

The Diablo demos were set in the 'main' stage area and while you could argue that it's just where it ended up, it's the first demo station people see from that main hall.

It was the last announcement of the opening ceremony, everybody expecting something and it was one big long wet fart.

I don't begrudge them for the game, but I do begrudge them for shooting themselves in the foot with this setup.

Yeah, because WoW players can't also be Diablo players..?

The tone-deafness of the company is the reason people are discouraged. It's not that hard to understand.

I'm generally pretty pro-Blizz, but the context of this announcement is why it has been panned by fans. If you genuinely don't understand this, fair enough; but it seems like you're being deliberately obtuse just to wind people up.
