I don't get it. [RANT]

Why are people roleplaying san’layan/darkfallen/vampyr/vampires/demons/other enemy races in Stormwind City? It’s just painting a target on their characters’ backs. And let’s not mention the ones who are not okay with the deaths of said characters. People, please don’t rp a vampire/demon if you are not okay with handling the consequences, such as attempts to kill your character.

(I know, I’m rping a Worgen Paladin, but they have their reasons about -WHY- they are a Worgen Paladin. At least he’s not an Orc parading around in Stormwind City like he owns the place.)

Anyways, what do my fellow people of Moon Guard think about these darkfallen rpers? I hear there’s an entire guild of 'em… and I’m cringing.

Because they like you can roleplay as they wish. If they are not doing anything to violate the ToS, you can ignore them and the way they choose to play pretend. I’m sorry you are so upset by this. Should we call the roleplay police?

Who gives a damn? If it ain’t yer thang move on. If someone walked up to me trying to godmode my dorf to death just because they didn’t like his beard I’m gonna tell them to kick rocks. It shouldnt be different for anyone else.

Sucks when Stormwind is covered in six paragraph fighting every night, but it’s nothing moving to another location won’t fix. A bunch of people are having a good time, no need to ruin their fun. There’s lots of taverns in the city: Walk around and make a new place to play!

Stormwind is full of bad RP. These people are just a fraction of it LOL

You literally just answered your own question. Congratulations! They have their reasons why they are edgelord vampires and poorly disguised demons. You earn one gold star.

Many players aren’t okay with the deaths of their characters. Is this a standard of entry for roleplay if I don’t want to allow the death of my own characters seemingly at random if someone doesn’t like me?

You’re not my dad.

Quite honestly, I really don’t care. Yes, it’s bad and cringey, but you have the beautiful option to just… ignore them if you don’t like them.

Give us some time. Yer giving us quite a lot to work with here.

Because I want my edgy elf to be even edgier.

BUT DON’T THINK FOR A SECOND YOU CAN ATTACK ME. THAT’S TREASON AND AGAINST THE ALLIANCE AND STUFF

Reminds me of BC and Wrath when Silvermoon City was filled with vampires. Those were the days.

Happens, just ignore and move on.

Or blame the Void Elfs like I do.

There will always be people who operate outside what might logically work in public RP. There’s countless different ways to make a unique character without resorting to things that are deliberately forcing other players to either ignore them, attack, or bend their own character’s reactions for the sake of avoiding conflict. Generally when asked why they RP things like demons, warlocks with their demons out in public, or… well, vampires, I guess, the answer is generally ‘I can RP what I want’.

Which is absolutely true. What is also true is that being able to RP what you want means the same for others, and that means it doesn’t shield you from IC consequences. But here’s the catch with that, and this is the crux of the issue: if someone is RPing something like what was listed above, they aren’t doing so with IC consequences in mind because they will fight tooth and nail in long drawn out combat, or OOC paragraphs, until the opposing side just gets exhausted.

Make no mistake, by and large a lot of the folks who RP such things know exactly what they’re doing, they know exactly what the logical consequences would be. But, like anyone who RPs, it’s not just about the story, it’s about getting attention, and RP. Vampires, non-Ebon Blade undead, demons, warlocks with demons out, hooded shadow wielding types who openly talk about murder, etc, etc, it all comes down to that same thing, in general.

RP is about give and take, and certain concepts force several people to bend their own concepts for the sake of a single person. Best to just ignore them if you can, and if you can’t, use some writing chops and create an IC reason to leave the space they’re in.

Creative liberty.

Alliance accepts the plague riddled Death Knights of the Ebon Blade, Fel infused Illidari, Void addled elves and even summons demons through proxy’ in the Black Harvest.

Could even go further with Calia and her host of Undead. Moral of the story is that we have plenty of grey area for players to RP everything under the sun that you or the next guy will hate.

Stormwind City is effectively the heart of Alliance-side’s public RP.

Public RP is an open, two-way street of actions and consequential reactions; people have the freedom to bring their ideas to life and you have the freedom to react however you feel your character should to those concepts.

If you want immersive, social consequences when a character that’s culturally antithesis to Stormwind City visits the capital of the Alliance and Humanity, then you shouldn’t hesitate to put put them forward.

A lot of characters, like my own, cringe away from and are apprehensive to non-traditional concepts that walk openly in the city. Other players ignore them and avoid coming to Stormwind City altogether because they don’t find it congruent to the stories that they want to tell. A fair number of writers are indulgent and inclusive, though, and they don’t care if you’re put off by their writing; they’ll tell you that people can play whatever they want and that you should “get over it.”

Frankly, if other people can play what they want in an open theater – then so can you. Don’t get mad; just RP it out organically and they can decide if they want to take those consequences or not.

Anyone can RP what they want, sure, and I don’t care and will choose who I want to RP with regardless. But here’s the thing…

In public theaters, there is the consideration of the community’s image. You aren’t really helping it if you’re RPing something that’s terribly outlandish. If you’re playing something that’s crazy, you’re potentially hurting the public scenery and detracting from its value and immersion. What if everyone played crazy things?

There’s a reason why nobody goes to Goldshire for public RP. It’s “their fifteen bucks a month and their RP, and just ignore them if you don’t like it” but it’s tragic what they’re doing to that inn and the community’s image.

Personally, it doesn’t bother me. Let them have their fun, and you have yours.

I can understand to an extent how the op feels, however people are right that sometimes it is right to ignore these people. You see rping as a sailyn(however it is spelled) is incorrect, and wrong to perform because b-elf dks are not the sailyn. Just an undead b-elf without the fangs. That is my opinion and take on it. Should I proactively tell them that is wrong? No because sometimes silence is golden, or talking to then privately once then ignore is probably the response that might wield the tyoe of change you want.

I can’t always get behind this mentality. It’s everyone’s own $15 USD but there is a certain degree of etiquette I wish folks would partake in around the city. Have some respect for folks’ immersion and be at least a little bit mindful of portraying a character that would otherwise be attacked by NPCs.

I’m not saying not to play what you want or how you want, but it would be nice to see more folks being mindful.

Ugh, preach it.

They’re playing those sorts of characters because that is what they want to do. I play what I like to play and you play what gives you your jollies. I take more issue with people who feel the need to come onto a public forum for validation in trashing other people’s ideas for no other reason than you yourself do not like it and it shouldn’t be allowed. Especially when you admit in the next breath that you’re playing something outside of the great and almighty Lore Sandbox that no one should ever step outside of.

Something tells me you haven’t looked at the MG wiki lately.

Or role-played with literally anyone. Most of the stuff we role-play is bordering on entirely crazy, if not straight up insane. Following the lore? In lore, we don’t exist. Players have made up entire towns that don’t exist on a map. Classes that don’t exist mechanically.

Like, if there’s anything I’m gonna get upset about it, it’s not going to be what someone chooses to role-play because unless you’re not playing in the game at all, none of us are free to critique anyone else’s story.

Like, let’s be real. This is my one chief complaint is that I’m constantly having to put entire groups of people on /ignore just to be able to have a decent conversation in some of the busier parts of town. But on the other hand… this game really sucks for role-play. A single chat box handles 50 peoples’ separate stories at the same time.

I’m starting to find discord more effective for storytelling lately.

It is pretty ridiculous. As a Guard RPer it’s really vexing to be honest, combat aside it’s difficult to even RP on the streets when folks are emote blasting public channels.

I try to keep my posts (for public/walk up RP) to a single ‘WoW Paragraph’ - sometimes two if absolutely necessary.
