There will always be people who operate outside what might logically work in public RP. There’s countless different ways to make a unique character without resorting to things that are deliberately forcing other players to either ignore them, attack, or bend their own character’s reactions for the sake of avoiding conflict. Generally when asked why they RP things like demons, warlocks with their demons out in public, or… well, vampires, I guess, the answer is generally ‘I can RP what I want’.
Which is absolutely true. What is also true is that being able to RP what you want means the same for others, and that means it doesn’t shield you from IC consequences. But here’s the catch with that, and this is the crux of the issue: if someone is RPing something like what was listed above, they aren’t doing so with IC consequences in mind because they will fight tooth and nail in long drawn out combat, or OOC paragraphs, until the opposing side just gets exhausted.
Make no mistake, by and large a lot of the folks who RP such things know exactly what they’re doing, they know exactly what the logical consequences would be. But, like anyone who RPs, it’s not just about the story, it’s about getting attention, and RP. Vampires, non-Ebon Blade undead, demons, warlocks with demons out, hooded shadow wielding types who openly talk about murder, etc, etc, it all comes down to that same thing, in general.
RP is about give and take, and certain concepts force several people to bend their own concepts for the sake of a single person. Best to just ignore them if you can, and if you can’t, use some writing chops and create an IC reason to leave the space they’re in.
