It shows that not just their servers but their gameplay systems are at the mercy of a few spiteful / jealous / malicious people. Most importantly, how people perceive Blizz’s attitude towards their customers is what’s at stake here. It’s Blizzard’s responsibility to keep servers stable and this is a fantastic opportunity for them to do the right thing. Why would anyone play on hardcore when they can be so easily griefed?
Blizzard should roll back the server, apologise, give them a free month and ask OF when they’re raiding again. They should beef up the network to the point that the DDOS can be defeated. The cost of doing this will be dwarfed by the mountain of goodwill AND good press they will earn.
And if the do this it proves once and for all that they bend over backwards for streamers.
World of warcraft isn’t designed for hardcore mode. DDOS is never going to be preventable. They got what they signed up for as much as it sucks.
If they rollback this, it’s special treatment for privileges, as important as OnlyFangs has been for the last year’s interest in Classic, and it will set a bad precedent that they’ve literally never taken before, and everyone will forever cry for rollbacks. So I disagree with you completely about what they need to do. But they should address it publicly, say that legal action is being taken and authorities are investigating it. That’s really all they can or should do. Deterrence is the only way to stop this, short of a comprehensive technical rewrite that is probably unfeasible and will probably just mean servers are exploited differently next time.
You also have no idea whether the cost will be dwarfed by a famously jaded, fickle, and bitter fanbase that might never recoup the cost, or streamers destined for fomo who will totally lose interest in the topic in a matter of weeks after a timeline where OF just wipes instead of being ddos’d.
So then make characters auto-logout on dc or alt-f4 if they aren’t going to try to defend the server.
It’s better to have people playing the game and crying for rollbacks they don’t get then to have everyone quit because your game has no integrity or stability.
Not enough.
I think they should restore every character in OnlyFangs and then kill every other character on the server. We must give our lives in sacrifice to these superior beings. Blizzard needs to show them how much more important they are than literally everyone else.
You mean their customers? God forbid Blizzard did that. I don’t understand the hateboner people have for streamers. They did nothing to negatively impact the server while I played there. Yeah, we suffer due to the fact the server is DDOS’d due to their presence, but that’s not their fault.
When Blizz’s updated (!) crashed the EU HC servers repeatedly, players there asked for rollbacks or restores. Nothing happened. Some times later it happened once again - this time only crashing half the world (one continent), players asked for rollbacks or restores. Nothing happened.
If they listen this time around because you all scream bloody murder because a bunch of streamers were included in the death-list, then it’s game over for HC as an ideal.
My “hate” is not for streamers, but for the influence they and their fas have … and which ordinary players do not seem to possess.
Your softcore opinion has been noted and disregarded.
It’s already over for HC if they don’t address this. That’s what you don’t get. They are starting from a position of it being over as a serious game-mode. They can possibly restore some trust by doing something, but the integrity of the hardcore server is already wrecked.
The integrity of HC is not wrecked. The playability is suffering which is bad, but can be remedied - and I agree strongly that this need to be adressed. But rollbacks/restores is not the way, for if HC loses its integrity then it’s game over.

It’s pretty simple. You don’t stream twitch to 50k viewers as someone like Soda does. So yeah, of course your influence is going to be insignificant in comparison.
But rollbacks/restores is not the way, for if HC loses its integrity then it’s game over.
Nobody is impressed with your hardline approach to a 21 year old game. The philosophy that “any reason you lose your character is valid” is an astoundingly dumb approach. If a rogue Blizzard employee deleted your character from their database, you would be complaining just like anyone who lost a character due to server instability.

A death is a death.
I lost several characters due to server instability last time around (yes the were recurring). I was not asking for reroll or re-anything.
If a rogue Blizz-griefer did this, I’d hope they acted in accordance with the Rules of Engagement and perma-banned him. But no way would I asl for a recreate of my caracter … a compensation like free game time on the other hand, I would not decline in the case of a Blizz employee doing me in.
They just need to allow characters to resurrect when the issue is 100% on their side, thats it. No need to worry about server upgrades or anything else, this simple incredibly low to 0 cost method will retain the playerbase and keep generating them revenue.
I have no idea why they refuse to budge lol

And this is precisely why almost nobody values your opinion on the matter.

almost nobodyDemie does not value your opinion on the matter.
Here, I fixed it for you
Theres no chance Id ever play any hardcore version of a blizzard game with their track record for getting DDOSd…its actually killed my interest in playing any blizzard games for the time being.
Thinking the streamers were the ones the hardest affected is cringe and shows your lack of intellect.
The majority of people who died weren’t streamers/popular people.
And for thousands of others players caught in the crossfire? Obviously?
