I’m a Tailor and an Alchemist
I want to upgrade some of my Gear through Tailoring (azureweave robe and shoes) and alchemy (trinket). To that end I’ve maxed my Tailoring skill, farmed knowledge points (currently 392) and I’m trying to max out my Tools and Accessories before I attempt recraft my gear.
So I tried to ReCraft an Alchemy Accessory (Master’s Wildercloth Alchemist’s Robes made by tailors-me) The item started out as tier 2 (2 silver diamonds) based on my skill the scale said I was guaranteed tier 4 (If I read the scale correctly, there are 10 subdivisions and I was 2 short of getting tier 5 (20% short?).
Recipe difficulty=400
Skill= 380 (350+30 illustrious insight buff)
I used all tier 3 (gold) reagents, made the item, but only got to tier 4 (4 blue diamonds).
I still had the recraft item window open and it now shows if I try again it will DOWNGRADE my item to tier 3.
Recipe Difficulty= 400 (same)
Skill= 272 (down from 350)
Inspiration= 33%
resourcefulness= 9%
Crafting Speed= 38%
It says I have a skill of 272 now and need to get it up to 320 in order to guarantee that I will make a tier 4 which I just made. This is messed up.
I’ve had similar problems trying to use the Crafting Order Feature to have someone else upgrade trade skill tools I can’t make (like the Tailoring needle set and spring loaded fabric cutters) EDIT-- I just remembered that it also won’t let me post a public order to recraft ONLY Personal and guild (WTF!?)
I applaud the devs effort to update trade skills but this is so kludgy and time consuming few are making use of it. The tooltip for skill level does not give a good break down of WHERE the skill is coming from nor how I can upgrade it.
P.S. I tried to post this as a bug using the in-game reporting tool but it only allows 255 letters.
You need to have mats in your bag to have correct skill for new recraft since mats and their quality contribute to your skill.
Or with Craftsim addon you can simulate the craft w/o having mats in your bag.
From what I can tell, when you created your rank 4 item, it ended up rank 4 because of an inspiration proc, otherwise it would have been rank 3, just as this recraft is stating.
You need more skill, or better tools, or illustrious insight. (since you said you were using all max rank mats).
Also, you wouldn’t want to make a public order for a recraft, or you’d very likely end up with an item even worse than you started with. ALWAYS find a crafter and engage them personally for higher end recrafts.
The interface shows what you would recraft it at with whatever materials you have in your bags. If you are missing items it assumes you are using R1 materials which provide zero bonus skill. The interface normally shows a downgrade because of this. Once you acquire the materials for another recraft attempt, you will see your skill level, and resultant tier, increase.
Something in your bags is giving you some bonus skill because otherwise the interface would be showing 250 skill (based on your 350 with all R3 mats). A base recipe difficulty of 400 will cause all R3 materials to provide 100 skill to the craft.
Do you have your epic tailoring chest and your other two profession equipment slots rare for +22 skill?
Do you have Garmentcrafting down through the appropriate item (i.e. chest, shoes) maxed out? Even though these items identify as profession equipment, they receive crafting skill bonuses as if they are regular gear.
It is possible to guarantee the R5 profession equipment, but it may take some more KP investment based on what you describe.
