I didn't think there was a "nope" dungeon in DF, until Nokhud

I did not start playing Dragonflight dungeons at all once I knew that follower dungeons (the reason I re-subbed after two years away) were coming. Once follower dungeons arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the spread of locales, even though I thought just snapshotting a part of the open world was a little bit cheap, but the way these are used to illustrate how important the land itself is makes it almost forgiveable.

Almost.

I’ve had “nope dungeons” in almost every expansion. I have a lot of alts, so bailing, usually as a DPS, when my “nope dungeon” comes up isn’t the inconvenience it may be to others, so long as I have something to pass the admittedly much shorter queue times. Past “nope” dungeons have included The Oculus and the Halls of Reflection and the reasons usually boil down to “can’t trust most players with this place’s nuances.” It hasn’t been that prevalent until someone warned me that one DF dungeon would likely be my Dragonflight nope dungeon, and… they were right, but not for the reasons they warned me for.

I can handle that the Nokhud Offensive is open concept and gives you the chance to use your dragon flying skills, but one thing that I have found “most players can’t be trusted with” is… landing at the final phase.

Everyone wants to get fancy and skip a pull here and there, or thread the needle of the dismounting enforcement that happens toward the end, and if folks are new and don’t know that the final boss uses fear, I could forgive it, but without fail, without fail all of my leveling dungeon Nokhud runs lately with live players have been an absolute trainwreck of “let’s skip some stuff to save time that we’ll end up spending anyway due to wiping because this is a group, not a team, and no one talks in leveling dungeons, nor will anyone feel they should.”

If not for follower dungeons I’d throw a PSA out like “pull like we’re all new unless you know for a fact that we aren’t,” but follower dungeons do exist. I like to level DPS with actual players sometimes, and maybe I’ll just eat the deserter in nokhud, but everyone should probably process that everyone has that option (to just use follower dungeons) now, and maybe, I don’t know… run more approachable LFD PUGs.

What are your “nope” dungeons of this or past expansions?

I am not a fan of the megadungeon DOTI.

I feel like I’m in the minority for actually liking Nokhud. The novelty of it makes it fun, but I also just really love Dragonriding.

I don’t have any I will straight up bail from but I do really really dislike Halls of Infusion.

Those stupid bloody frogs. Ugh. This includes the frog boss.

I used to think the Swogs were cute and charming until I had to do that place enough times.

Oh, and the run-back absolutely sucks.

I share you dislike; I pretty well loathe Nokhud. First I dislike having to fly from spot to spot. I would sometimes try to catch a ride with one of the other players but they often shot off before I got the chance. The landing spot for the last boss has to be precise because if I flubb it and I get left behind, I am generally dead from the mobs I pull.

And ok, it’s a me thing, not even so much the group. I just deal badly with that dungeon and I will never willingly do it, in either live or follower dungeons. I’d rather eat the wait time and just play on another toon.

The other dungeon I really dislike is Grimrail Depot. I’m sure there are some who love it but I rarely fail to die at the 2nd last boss. Again, probably a ‘me’ thing but gameplay is ultimately subjective.

I think Nokhud was actually pretty epic. Busting up those massive trash packs was fun and I liked the ballista boss.

But I seem to like dungeons that many do not.

I literally fell victim to this yesterday!

I died on a miscue on the penultimate boss, as a melee, and did not see someone in the middle of rezzing me when I released, and literally got back in time for the final boss to die.

Because, you know, the social compact of modern dungeons is to not wait for anyone haha.

But I was floored that there was no shortcut! Me just huffin’ myself along with two charges of death’s advance used on cooldown!
