I defeated the mage tower tonight. My thoughts

I personally thought that the BM challenge was an appropriate challenge. There wasn’t really a dps check, and it just required you pay attention to the mechanics. I personally tried to get both Tugar and Jormog low before killing one so the enrage wouldn’t wreck me and that strategy made it manageable. It took me less than 20 tries to complete it and I’m not a top tier player. I also tried the survival challenge and I think the first phase of the challenge is appropriate, but the dps needed in the second phase requires farming op trinkets and/or farming/buying socketed gear. I have seen streamers grind the tower for certain specs for 9+ hours to finish certain challenges. If people who play games and stream for a living are taking that long to beat it, then the average player will not complete certain challenges. I’m interested to see which spec encounters Blizzard will nerf. I would like Blizzard to either: 1) nerf some of the encounters if they are going to time gate this or 2) don’t nerf the encounters, but leave the mage tower as an open challenge. Why do you need to time gate this? Having more challenging content available is a good thing, why time gate it? Just my two cents.

Just resubbed exclusively for the Mage Tower. Time to get my @$$ kicked and come complain on the forums…

Hope your experience with mage tower is just as horrible as mine.

It can’t be, I’m expecting to lose…

Join the club, pal!

220 + attempts. Farmed mats for crafted MOP gear (lots of sockets) , spent some gold on good agility gems , farmed Zin’anthid from Naj for pots and leather for drums. All up around a day of farming.
I finally got Kruul down… and you can too. It’s bloody hard but it is fair and doable. keep at it and if you feel yourself getting frustrated take a break and come back with fresh focus.

I’ve probably done havoc 200 times and at best I got him to 60% in phase 1 and never in phase 2. He also casts randomly whatever he wants like draw power then teleports and immediately another draw power so rip me if I don’t have an int. And this is on Havoc btw, not to mention I die to darkness quite a bit cause I can’t get across the room fast enough and even when I do he sits there and doesn’t appear and my hp ticks away. This is definitely bugged content.

Any word from blizzard about more hotfixes for the mage tower? I’m not going back in there in it’s current form. I really want all the different transmogs for my characters but spending all day in there learning the fight? Is it worth it? I just dont know. I did it the first time on my hunter and it felt unhealthy for my mind and body. Come on blizzard. Let’s make this more casual friendly. I would say a 50% nerf across the board on all challenges?

Ordinarily I would agree with you if the state of the game was healthy and more desirable. However, the game has been on a downward slide, so angering the players that are left when this highly popular feature of the game is brought back for a limited basis will only push more players away.

Guardian one needs tuning still, you need to either buff player damage, or give us our legendary abilities, this timewalking shouldn’t be harder than when it was current. You’ve had almost two entire expanions of class changes, then remove legendaries from working, when that entire expansion was based around them and artifact weapons, which we also don’t have, like come on already…

I defeated it on the 135th attempt, was a painful mind-numbing experience. NOT because it is overtuned but because the eye, infernal spawns, beams and most importantly the Leap by Kruul are random and they do matter a LOT.

Oh they definitely need to make it so Kruul cant stomp and then annihilate. There is no skill that can stop that.

ahem… tell me if you’ve heard this one before.

Clearly this less-than-optimal implementation is a developer skill issue.

So… Ion, devs… “get gud”…

I lost count but it took me less than 20 attempts for the Resto Shaman one, so at least they got the tuning down for the healer challenge. Didn’t feel over-tuned at all.

agree 100%, they need to be nerfed a lot more. They weren’t even close to this difficult in Legion.

Is there a reason it’s been SIXTEEN DAYS and nothing has actually been done?

In total, you nerfed one of the 2 bosses of the Tank Challenge by 10% and 15% for Druid, and Paladin, respectively.

On top of that, the “nerf” you made to the twins fight made it a good 5000% harder, because you risk the twin that isn’t supposed to hit you at the start just randomly deciding to melee you for 80% of your health, or just start walking all over for no reason and throwing the adds off.

Which, I might add, is not nearly enough. I nearly one-shot the Kruul challenge as my paladin, when I struggle to just reach phase 2 on my druid. My paladin can stand in the aura and get 10 stacks and not die without trouble, but if my druid gets even 3, I die. Fast. My paladin can kill the arcane adds VERY fast, and one shot the eyes with judgment. THe arcane adds take 10-15 seconds to die as Guardian, and the eyes take multiple tics from moonfire.

Meanwhile, you undid one of the “nerfs” you did for Guardian, without making a new nerf, even though by doing the first nerf, you acknowledge the arcane adds are overtuned for Guardian.

You need to fix this before the Mage Tower goes away for 6 months. Seriously.

There’s nothing broken about them, though.

Perhaps you need more experience/practice on Guardian?

There are some helpful guides on Icyveins and Wowhead for people learning new classes.

  1. I quoted a blue post that quite literally says there’s something wrong, so please, be quiet. Thanks.

  2. Welcome to ignore for implying I don’t know how to play my class. Thanks.

Only one week remains.

If you did then you would’ve completed the challenge by now, silly.

It’s a simple test of skill for cosmetics, it doesn’t need tweaks. People have completed every challenge.

They are a good example of a fragile ego, not realising or too afraid to admit that it’s their mistakes that’s causing them to fail, not a tuning issue.
