Classic HC is an amazing mode…to me, it feels like the only authentic feeling MMO we have had in this recent Warcraft era. 
Not all servers are like that, it’s just like if you had a bad experience at a McDonald’s and you swore off all McDonald’s for good thinking they’re all the same.
I’m sure there’s a retail server that you could vibe with, I personally like Moon Guard.
The constant horny posting doesn’t bother me one bit, it’s comfy.

I played on classic since wrath classic and community on there is bad, way worst than retail
It’s really simple in my opinion.
Retail is for competitive types. People looking for new experiences and taking their skills into new areas and content.
Classic and most of the variations are old content with tried and tested methods. So, it’s the relived experience and quite often the mindless fun.
Retail isn’t mindless. It’s very much an all or nothing experience. People are pressured to excel at every level. And amazingly it touches even the least difficult and base part of the game as in LFR, mythic zero, heroic, TW dungeons, etc.
I’m not immune to the toxic behavior; it is more infrequent but still exists.
I mean, case in point, I’m immensely grateful for follower dungeon mode like dawnbreaker because I would totally lose my sense of direction had I not tested this one out. Enough to have myself kicked.

It’s just that the doors to all end game content are flanked by a brutal and unforgiving attitude.
You have to roll with the punches. git gud as they say. And just remember, there’s always someone better than you are in every type of content

Truth be told, if I wanted to deal with people screeching in my ears/chat about what an expletive I am, I’d work a customer service gig. Never again, that.
I’m here to relax. So I’m definitely on the Veteran track predominantly, dipping higher as I can grab via vault, luck, or what have you. At the end of the day, all harder modes give is loot that staves off replacement for a patch or two.

Well that’s why the NFL doesn’t do pick up games.
I’d imagine if most of those players dropped down to a pick up game they’d reasonably leave their standards at the door. Professionals have etiquette and perspective as well.

Its more there has to be a bottom rung and you can’t just wish it away.
Even if you took wow players and transplanted them into an easier game like final fantasy most of the population would die off from the skill checks there. WoW has so many utterly low skilled players that it naturally needs a pit to house them.
hardcore is better? its actually worse, that sort of gameplay doesnt lend itself well for an engaging and friendly environment. say what you will about retail but Ive seen nothing but horror stories of people going on month long crusades to troll and merc entire guilds trying to enjoy the game because of some imaginary wrong committed.
so much to the point that I barely hear a peep about the mode outside of dumb “death” compilations that occasionally pop up in my youtube feed. if HC became less hostile and toxic its because theres no one playing anymore. cant have a hostile environment in a ghost town.
