The deminishing returns can even be seen in BC so it’s not really fair to say “growth = success”.

Classic AFTER it’s main spike went from 3 to 8.5m. 5.5million growth over the xpac.

BC went from 8.5m to 11m. 2.5m growth over the xpac.

WotLK went from 11m to 12m. 1m growth over the xpac.

See how they follow the same general diminish %? BC grew about half as much as classic and wrath grew about half as much as BC. That’s just how expansion over time works.

WoW has been tanking since late Wrath. The vast majority of what was added beyond that point has made the world smaller, removed real choice, and made the community more bot-like.

Retail and Classic are two different games with two different communities. Of course there’s some overlap. Classic won’t kill retail, it will only help WOW’s reputation.

I think technically, Retail will have Classic beat because it has 15 years of player time played over Classic.

The BEST comparison I can make is Old School Runescape did not kill Runescape 3.
Runescape 3 SUCKS and it is still around. And it only sucks because it is pay to win garbage, and would be the equivalent of spending gold for ilvl 415 items in WoW. (for Every slot)

On a side note, I also battle CipSoft for a retro version of Tibia, and they analyzed everything and came to the conclusion that it is to much work and they don’t want to do it. Tibia now is garbage and that game is still kicking, actually making more money than they ever have.

In my opinion, retail WoW is great, never really sucked, and classic is no way going to kill it because retail just simply doesn’t have the flaws everyone keeps talking about.

We all want a more difficult experience sometimes, and that will be classic. I’ll play it too but retail just isn’t flawed and there’s no way anyone should really stop playing it out of some made up resentment.

Everyone complains because they keep comparing the came to previous expansions.

Same! I was only playing to unlock KTs, and it felt like a chore doing so. Worse of all the prize was very underwhelming. Can’t wait to play to have fun in classic again :slight_smile:
