...Why? I'm genuinely confused by this part of the Lost Honor cinematic. Overall it was gorgeously animated (as always) but personally it fell a little flat with me because they're talking about Sylvanas like she's this overwhelming, unstoppable force. Is she really though?? The Horde is clearly not unified behind her and the Zandalari empire is on the brink of collapse from the pressure of outside forces and inner turmoil. I'm a Sylvanas supporter but I don't exaggerate her accomplishments as WC so far.
There seems to be a level of disconnect between the way the lore characters regard Sylvanas as this relentless, unbeatable force and what she's actually done in the game so far. As Warchief, she has one definitive victory at the crispy tree. The battle at UC is basically a wash, and the war campaign isn't exactly conclusive for either side at this point. The feeling of hopelessness expressed by both Anduin and Saurfang in that cinematic is just weird, especially for a veteran like Saurfang who has seen countless battles and has likely seen momentum swings.

Every time a soldier of the Horde or Alliance falls in battle... Sylvanas army of forsaken becomes larger and stronger.
I think he meant that he can't stop her without stooping to her level of immorality.

the king is a punk :(
To be fair she is the only foe that has been crazy enough to genocide most of an ancient race since Arthas himself. Did you see the part of the cinematic with the body bags?
I'm kind of neutral toward the Sylv vs Saurfang thing but... can't deny she has a lot of power thanks to those Valkyr and the fact that Horde races are apparently very easy to control (dead elves apparently even easier).

Watch it again. The opening scene explains it.
The Alliance has already mobilized all it's trained soldiers, and while we see rows of living troops on the docks, we see rows more under shrouds and in coffins. He feels responsible, and he doesn't care for the thought of drafting farmers next.
It's not that there has been a decisive victory, it's that there has been no decisive victory at all for the Alliance, and none in sight.

He's not willing to commit the same level of atrocities she has in order to win. I still side with sylvanas cause I'm a fan and imo I only disliked garrosh when he became a xenophobe.
The atrocities are pretty bad but if you think about it she literally almost won the war at lordaeron.

Sooooo how do they plan to stop her then since Saurfang is all about his honor and Anduin won't do anything bad. If neither is willing to be as ruthless as she is then... They both just gonna stare at her menacingly?

This right here.
That's exactly what he meant.
The reason is pretty obvious. The Horde, and Alliance are equally matched. The war will range until little remains. There won't be anything left worth fighting for. Anduin has realized this. It is a war without end, and the victor's victory will be just as painful as a defeat.

Additionally the more and more the Horde feels like they are a victim of stuff the more they would become emboldened and fight even harder and more aggressive. There is no way to really win this without going too far in which tons and tons of people would die. So his best idea is to spark honor in the horde and make them turn on her.
Because the Horde is evil and the Alliance is incompetent!
It's done like this, to be easier to tell the story!
I'm not happy, with Anduin asking for help from Saurfang, to stop Syl!
We should do it by ourselves or at least give painful damage to the horde, which we have not done!
The horde does not feel like we're knocking it back!
The Alliance kills an irrelevant useless as Rastakhan, and that did not hurt their morale even a little! Because rastakhan means nothing to the Horde!
Never meant!
The Horde injures Jaina and sends Geblin to "the refrigerator"!
And now we have to get help from saurfang, to save the Alliance from the evil Sylvannas!
I do not feel interested in this type of action!
But that's what we have for today!
Yeaih! ¬_¬

I really hope Bolivar plays a role in her story.
It feels messy to me. This was touted as the expansion that would make both sides feel "proud" of their faction... The Horde is torn apart from within and the Alliance high king is asking a Horde prisoner to help him win 3 months in the expansion. I'm a pretty positive guy, but this writing team is kicking my toned elvish buttocks.
malfurion had her within a hair of death until saurfang saaved her ash so I'm not sure why he said that.
With how Sylvanas is willing to wage total war, Anduin feels he can’t win unless he does the same, and sacrifices what the Alliance stands for. So he needs the true Horde to help

And this is the argument I make about Saurfang being weak and pointless as far as taking leadership.. he sees the division, with a little poking could find enough to try ON HIS OWN to get thoe against Sylvanas to side with him, without going to the Crybaby Andy to solve his problem... in reality, the ally would see that (unless they are completely useless)there is division and make use of the opportunity and then side with him to overthrow her.. or create a third faction.. but no thanks Id rather The Dark Lady.

He could have killed her in that throne room. I guess she still has extra lives or whatever though, right? So...

Which basically means that Anduin is admitting that the Alliance isn't strong enough to uphold its ideals on its own and requires an uprising within the Horde to do it for them. Like I said, this is supposed to be the "faction pride" expansion. How is either side supposed to feel good about any of this? Alliance comes across as weak and the Horde comes across as incapable of controlling itself. This isn't the story of two factions at war with equally flawed worldviews; it's the story of bumbling idiots falling over each other until the big bad shows up and a ludicrous reconciliation occurs.
