This is gonna sound incredibly stupid or uninteresting but i messed up my brain big time. I used to navigate all games using WQSE meaning W and S are forward and back but i strictly used Q and E to strafe left and right respectively. Whether its WoW, Overwatch or any game
And then Myth Of Empires came out and for some unknown reason, they didn’t let you rebind your keys so i had to learn WASD. Now that glorious game is kinda dead due to… reasons.
Now I’m trying to play overwatch and wow again and i can’t for the life of me use either method reliably, there is zero improvement, i keep pressing the wrong buttons… it’s kind of ruining my gaming life and keeping me on these forums as it’s the only enjoyment I can have now.
When i was learning to use my 12 button mouse, i would do practice runs and hit dumbies. In your case, create an obstacle course that would force you to use the correct buttons.
I’ve gotten to the point where I have used my Scimitar so much that my thumb automatically goes to the button I need, all that practice has given me great muscle (motor?) memory. Its glorious.
Problem is, WoW is my go-to game. Whenever I play other games, I am so sloppy with relearning the keybinds that I set up for that specific game cause my brain is all "WoW"ed up. Always takes me a bit to rewire myself to Fallout or Diablo, and even then its not as smooth and seemless as with WoW
I never have been able to learn WASD movement. I suck at it. I didn’t really play video games at all until I started playing WoW, and I was terrible at moving my character until I learned about using the mouse to move.
So take heart, you could be worse off than you are now. LOL I can’t play any games that don’t use mouse movement.
You don’t actually have to ever press your ‘D’ key unless you’re like tanking or something.
Just use ‘W’ to move forward, and control where your character is going with your mouse.
Sort of the same prob op. Had a tbi years ago, and can hardly use my left arm, or hand anymore. I just learned to use the mouse to move, etc. Only time I use the keyboard is to maybe type a message. And that’s tedious also for the same reasons. Have to admit wow is a little more user friendly when it comes to playing with a physical disability. Just practice movements, or moving with the mouse, and you will get the hang of it.
I mean, most things involving gaming boil down to muscle memory. I would level a new character using either method you would rather use. And I would give that an honest shot and I would begin moving through the motions because you’ll become comfortable in lower stress environments.
That’s how I learned how to bind and become comfortable.
