At character creation it says: Alliance faction unavailable due to population imbalance.
My friends play on crusader strike ally. Is there anyway around this? Im sad I can’t play
with my pals on this realm.

Either make a horde character or wait for the horde population to grow enough to balance the scales. Blizzard is enforcing faction balance for SoD.

If I stay at character creation screen will I eventually be able to pick alliance on crusader strike? is that a viable work around?

If you get really really lucky, maybe. But I wouldn’t get your hopes up, Alliance out-number horde by quite a bit this season so it’s unlikely that alliance will be unlocked any times soon.
This is quite annoying… im gonna try it anyway for a bit to see if it works. Thanks for the responses 
With how much players cried about faction imbalance since the launch of classic, this should be expected. Rejoice Blizzard is listening to the community.
