I cant keep aggro sometimes

Tanking gets tough when people take aggro while im trying to pull packs. Like if i walk into 1 pack of mobs, thunder clap then head to the 2nd. Sometimes the dps will just go full ham on the first pack pull the dps everywhere and now its just annoying cuz they hit super hard and now i look bad for not keeping aggro

Just say let me grab some packs don’t attack until I round them all up…

If they still attack after you do that before, you can get aggro good, oh well taunt off of them the best you can…

And to quote a fake Russian in a movie if they die they die.

Yeah you gotta tell people you’re rounding up mobs. There are a lot of reasons for this, I’ve been seeing it commonly done in Waycrest before pig boss, the tank wants to run into the halls and round stuff into the courtyard.

Problem with this is sometimes they die before they get back out and sometimes they do it without notice so I don’t have enough HoTs on them or I don’t run into the hall with them.

I’ve also had moments where I followed them during the round up, got aggro, killed and wipe.
Announcing you’re doing it lets the group prepare.

Let them tank it until they understand, keep the mobs niiiice and separated. Let the ranger from BRH shoot arrows to her hearts content

Tanks be like, I don’t understand why people don’t just read my mind

You’re too short. The mobs can’t see you so they only notice that goofy elf in the back.

It should be a very rare occurrence. You have an aoe taunt, multiple aoe abilities, a ranged throw that generates threat.

Just practice and you’ll get better

while I understand the plight, i doubt that you would expect one thunderclap on a pack of mobs to keep aggro at the keys you are running.

-charge in, shockwave, thunderclap, leap to the second pack and whirlwind, charge back to the first one, whirlwind once or twice while you get everything together
-then get the mobs in front of you and do the the shield slam/revenge/thunder clap/shockwave thing.
-plus ravager somewhere in there too. maybe ravager pull the second pack and more or less stay with the first pack.

i love whirlwind while I am gathering because it is a 360’ ability unlike revenge that is only frontal. guides seem to dismiss this talent altogether. I think it is great for generating aggro on the move because of the 360’ effect.

and dont forget challenging roar if the pull is a real mess.

my guess is at the keys you are running, you are doing most of this.

but one last thought, if you have a group of really impatient dps, don’t pull multiple packs. instead chain pull them. grab one pack and as soon as you have enough aggro, go to the next one while they cleanup the last one. that will give you time to get aggro on the next group before the dps even gets there.

and you might already be doing this, but battle stance not defensive stance.

but the problem might also come from being smol.

Yeah with pugs who won’t wait for you to gather, you simply need to use more abilities before moving to the next pack.

Especially with how bursty dps is now. It’s easy for people to rip aggro if you only hit the mob once.

For DH it’s like glaive, sigil, imo, bomb, then I can jump to next pack. The first two abilities being used from ranged, the second two abilities being used in melee, so it’s really more of a drive-by motion.

Do wars still have a thrown ability? Throw at one mob, charge another, single target another, then clap, then move on. Something like that.

I usually try to hit ‘em with a couple moves before running. Actually if there is a caster mob I’ll run up to it, interrupt it, swing a hammer around then start moving. Just to make sure it is gonna follow me at least most the way to the next pack. Maybe throw down a consecration for them to follow me thru.

As a dps only player, I try to gauge what the tank is going to do.

If the tank stops at the first 2 mobs and attacks - it’s going to be a slow one.

If the tank AOE’s the first 2 mobs and keeps running - Ooooh this is gonna be a quick one.

If the tank doesn’t stop running at all - Feign Death.

I think tanks also have to test to see what the healer is capable of and if the dps are capable of doing enough damage to larger packs.

I’ve had very few tanks actually communicate their plan, sometimes it works out well as the group figures it out quite quickly, other times, no, it doesn’t work out well at all.

This made me laugh out load. Well said. As a new tank, I’ll take note.
