Rolled Monk for BFA and was constantly destroyed on the meters, both WW and MW.
REALLY want to give Shammy a shot at SL main, but can’t take another expansion of getting benched for both M+ and Raiding.
Shoot me straight…does Shammy have a chance for competitive DPS + Heal specs or should I just roll with the meta?
Chasing meters is a sure fire way to hate your life in wow.
I pug a lot, and meters are what keep me from getting kicked the first time we have a bad pull.
Shaman has been fine and will continue to do Fine. If you are getting kicked because you aren’t pulling dmg then it isnt the class or the spec.
Now if you are looking for “Roll my face across the keyboard” top dps then shaman especially the new enhance is not for you.
Enhance will always be one of the least desirable MDPS. Nothing will change that, even feral druids offer more. I think its one of the most fun melee to actually play though.
Elemental will always be wanted because any RDPS usually is in short supply for raiding and Elemental is decent.
Resto is S tier for raiding and A tier for M+ - you wont have any issue there.
If you want to play melee, pick DH/Rogue/War, those are the only ones raids really “needs”… TBD if DK fits in there.
The M+ and Raid damage was mid-low tier for S4. 11 specs ranked higher, some by a very large amount.
There hasnt been anything mid to low tier about either shaman dps specs the last half of the xpac. Not sure where you getting your info from.

in case you didnt notice, S4 is over and things are completely different. You should be looking at the beta.
For example, enhance was near the top at the end of legion… that gave no indication of BFA performance.
Ngl this is a pretty useless post. No one, not even the devs have a clue what will be the top dps specs in S1, and the top performers in S1 could be worst in S2.
If you want to be guaranteed a spot, you’re gonna have to go off utility.
Mage, rogue, hunter will always be required no matter what
Restoration Shaman is probably the strongest progression healer for raiding in the game.
With M+ its better than before with certain covenants, but still behind other healers pushing above 15
Enhance DPS is currently parsing very well — and seems to be performing on the top end of DPS classes.
I can’t speak for Elemental as I haven’t tested it nearly as much. People say its alright, but the 10% lava surge issue hurts us.
Enh still > Ele for M+ content.

If you’re looking at meters for HPS, you’re already using the wrong mindset for healing.
No, it’s the riptide and earth shield buff shoring up a couple of rshams biggest weaknesses plus shamans generally really high throughput currently.
Weaknesses still include bad damage, which covenants help a tiny bit, and no poison dispel
Something tells me blizzard will buff hpal… they almost always do. Otherwise accurate list… Tempted to play it safe and stick with rdruid but I really want to shaman 
Meters are what keep you from getting kicked in pugs.
Meters are useless in determining healing efficiency.
