Let’s say there’s an item and the listings are as follows:
- 9999G 99S 97C
- 9999G 99S 98C
- 9999G 99S 99C
- 10,000G
- 15,000G
Normally I would buy the 4th listing for 10k because that was the first seller to /actually/ offer a real discount / deal on the item. I’d rather spend the extra 3 copper to go around the undercutters, but now that doesn’t appear to be an option. I can only buy the cheapest ones unless I want to buy out all of them in addition to the 10k item. Am I doing this wrong?

If I recall, you can select which item to buy with armor and weapons for example, but things like trade goods; cloth, ore, leather etc you only purchase the cheapest listed first as you stated in your post.
in retail it’s the same. you buy from the bottom up.
if the items is not stackable, you can buy the individuals directy.
if it’s stackable, you HAVE to buy from the cheapest first.
If you’re using the Neutral AH to transfer gold cross-faction, just put up a random gear grey/white gear or something.

Right. You cannot support your local farmers any more.
Such a non-issue, who cares about the undercutters, especially when it’s one copper.

There is no incentive (on stackable items) to discount the price. I’ve made more sales then I can count when I wasn’t the cheapest option because I was actually making more meaningful undercuts.
Yes there is it’s the same incentive as before, to have your stuff sell first. A competitive market is good because it will eventually lead to lower prices (until someone buys low and sells high) a stagnant market is bad. A fluctuating market is normal.
I do the same thing! But, yes. Unfortunately it is a thing of the past with this new system.
AH overhaul was what discouraged me from logging into retail when it was implemented there. It’s just overall unsightly and annoying to navigate. I try to see their optimistic perspective , but I just don’t any rationale in changing the game from who can offer the most fair price to who can run to the mailbox and back faster. Sad day
It’s really very uncontrolled for many items that need more for use than for transmog, even for items that are easy to obtain.
I don’t know what the community thought about retail, not even modern WoW despite the revamp of vanilla WoW, the only thing missing is MoP where everything is marked, and it seems that it doesn’t help, or they want to annoy the others who earn more easily in the case of mats, pots and consumable items like gems, or enchanting that are needed to build our gear.
But nothing can be done either since it is a classic MMO supply and demand problem.
