I don’t have a problem with subscription based and paying for expansions at all, in fact I prefer this old-school approach. Its the double/triple dipping on other monetization schemes on top which I don’t care for, milking whales for MTX etc like a mobile game at the same time that becomes the issue.
Could be a new RTS, or a topdown Baldur’s Gatish RPG or an ARPG too. AoE2 DE popularity and AOE4 coming out shows theres still a market for RTS, same for RPG with pillars/divinity/bg3 etc. ARPG might be the least likely, but of course the genre is still large.
My money is on a MOBA or FPS. That is where the money is right now. Or they could just cut to the chase and go the straight mobile with microtransactions route.
I have seen this numerous times in the past, a few good developers go off to make a new company just to fail because they cannot compete with the mega-developers and end up running with what us left of the start-up cash.
No joke, ISP and servers costs / upkeep and electric power aren’t free…
Have you looked at the second yooka game at all? It’s a LOT better.
no man’s sky was really innovative, especially after they fixed its initial issues, but it loses umph, the higher your level. the restrictions necessarily dictated by the huge leaps in the game’s technical aspects, requires alot of samey-ness,if you get my meaning. wow shines because the lore dictates the game’s trajectory, rather than technical limitations inherent in cutting edge offerings
there’s a sweet spot, once the tech is stable and its limitations thoroughly understood, that a great body of lore can create a great game.
I’ve seen a little bit of it, I’ve heard it’s pretty solid but it didn’t really vibe with me personally
I can get that, it’s more of a donkey kong country style game than a banjo kazooie one.
I’m waiting for Pantheon or EQ3.
Pantheon looks promising, especially if you played everquest
Shadowlands lfg is a ghost town. The game is terrible.
Check the google hype tracker. TBC and classic make shadowlands look like the clown show it is.
Despite the talent Dreamhaven have recruited I wouldn’t be resting my hopes on them. Look where hype got CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk. Compare this to say Valheim, which kind of just sprung up from no where, and was made by a 5 person team to boot.
“talent”
Someone seriously drank the Kool aide!
Thanks.
LOL nothing is going to come out of DH but a cash grab scam
