I blinked and suddenly everyone rerolled MM, did I miss something?
Do you have something in your eye?
MM was the dominant spec in CN an is still often used in higher content, but BM is currently also very strong and even higher up in popularity for SoD.
So, where did you get this idea that everyone rerolled? Kinda the opposite is more true.
I raided for last few months of CN and never once saw a hunter in any of my raids, so can’t really tell you about that. I was more referring to pvp, but if people are going MM for it being good then where are all the survival hunters?
Hunter wasnt exactly strong in most of the fights, but its always been a popular class, so it seems odd if you never saw one.
There are at least two current threads in this forum that explore this very question ![]()
You can go there and read for quite a few hours.
From what I see on the Forums, playing the MM Hunter spec has gained in popularity on the Battle Fields…
I’m not a raider, but Wowhead just posted the latest PVE DPS chart and Hunters are in the basement.
MM is just a 1-minute bursty spec in BGs, in PVE I can’t imagine it fairs very well in a long fight waiting for DT to come back. All of the MMs you are seeing now in Oribos are your typical boosting FOTM chasers looking for an easy path.
Hunters go pew pew, much liked
It can’t be just you having this pov, so I’m just picking your post. People play BM for … a different less castery more mobile feel. But MM has beaten BM the whole time.
It was a bit of a contest in CN to see how close I could get to MM but it’s totally blown out of the water today. MM crushes BM. Wildly and crazily in raid, like by huge amounts. There are moments in some mythic+ where the target counts allow BM to begin the close the gap but we never really get there.
as for OP, the reason why it’s taken off even more now is that there’s some additional PVP thinking behind it now … which tends to take hold in down times. What else is ther eto do? MM burst and openers crush in pvp. BM used to get by with some sustain and survivability but other classes burst is so crazy now, that got run over.
I dont know where you got this from, but this is completely wrong and you got this totally backwards. There was no contest in CN, MM was the spec for that if you didnt want to troll.
However, the NF-legendary being insanely strong for BM and its great ST damage are making it a very viable hunter spec in SoD now. Both are still rather weak compared to other classes, but both are pretty good choices for hunter right now.
In M+ you would be right, but also kinda backwards. MM crushes BM there with the superior kyrian burst, since in most pulls BM will not be able to make full use of the NF legendary. It only shines in dungeons with fewer mobs in each pull, like ToP.
- SV is typically not as good in PvE content
- Most Hunters do not want to play melee
I love my pet, but happy I can just truly soli and not worry what my pet is doing or wonky pathing.
How old is this data cause it showing SV beating out both other specs in Mythic. Has this change anything with SV player numbers?
Yeah, I wasn’t clear. Thought one thing wrote another. The contest for me was how far I could get to the MM hunter. And (in a good natured group) it was fun to have something to shoot for. So I don’t remember it quite so roughly.
Antlers can help ST but the CD is so long, it’s definitely hurt by that. And MT it’s even more contentious with the size limit, as written if there are more than 4 targets, it does nothing. It’s not bad, but it’s no simple win. Typical blizzard, give one thing, take away two.
The real real problem I see with BM though (apart from it just being less raw damage, which is real) is the anti-pet fights. Or fights that function as anti-pet. The last two fights of each raid are poster children for this. As we go over the various terranes and through portals and across bridges and jumping between platforms the pets just go brain dead. They exibit all kind of crazy behavior from being totally unresponsive or just MIA even through the UI shows them there. There are tools to deal with this, but they aren’t exactly super reliable.
It’s a powerful effect. Even if it’s some kind of target switching fight where the targets are far apart, BM dps pretty much automatically goes into the crapper.
I don’t think the effects of pet-hostile fights can go unmentioned here. It really stinks and I’m sure it’s gotten some people to go MM.
