i got a staff from incursions the other day which was a huge upgrade from the shield and dagger i had been using. i immediately mogged it to my artifact for both ele and resto. but i’ve been living a lie. i have 2k armor. -.- i mogged it to a staff appearance before i just logged off. idk why this crap is on our loot table. anyone else get a huge upgrade STAFF they want to QQ about with me?

You are complaining about a simple staff… Well… that isn’t the worst you could have gotten.
I recieved a 2H hammer from an emissary back in the early days of 8.0 that was an upgrade at the time (it was only a 840 baby weapon but, early days).
You think that you where living a lie? I was a Restoration paladin. Hell, Illidan gave me his title of betrayer for what I had done.
I still keep that weapon… to remind me of darker times.
Staves… they are cool. Xmog them into 2H axes and watch people flip their lids on you with it.

This bothers me as well. Now that we have personal loot for everything there is no reason to stick us with staves. If anything they should sprinkle in a few more caster axes and way more caster claws.

Maybe they should just apply the rotating primary stats while on weapons and call it a day.

I agree completely. Its kinda weird that staves are an option when they have no upside. Would be cool if you could run faster or something

From a pvp perspective? Yes. Staves have no advantages over A trusty 1H and shield. However. When you Raid / m+ … That block chance doesn’t matter anymore.
The Pro’s to a staff? … You don’t need 2 of them. Although dual wielding staves like some form of psycho shaman would be cool… When a staff drops at 390… You are set. Meanwhile, you get a 390 shield and your main hand is still a 350 sad panda.
Shaman can use staves. Blizzard has just done an extemely poor job at creating some finely crafted sticks with a shaman vibe to them. Skulls, fetishes… all that business… feathers? Sure why not.
Less Rng is always an upside in this game, and needing 1 drop over 2? … That is just peachy.

pretty sure you can’t block when you’re casting anyways. I guess the passive armor works though. Does it add up to the same stats as a same ilevel staff? I dunno.
I got one to drop from an emissary quest, I main enhance so was a bit pissed. Transmogged it to Gorehowl though, I get to look cool and re-live the 2H times that was vanilla enhance while healing now.

Mog to Sulfuras, I feel that’s an appropriate Elemental caster stick.
The MH/OH combo does, yes.
I was thrilled to have seen a 2H caster weapon that wasn’t a staff. Shields are almost impossible for me to find or I’ll get a good OH and have no MH to go with it. (yes, I’m posting on my main but I play a troll ele shaman and a draenei enh shaman too).
Same thing happened to me once, too. One thing I’ve done a few times since 8.0 is use an agi staff (mogged into a 2h axe/mace) out in the OW on dailies and such. You pick up all extra abilities, like sundering, overcharge, and earthen spike, to replace SS and LL. It is very suboptimal, and WF doesn’t hit as hard as you think, but I was able to run around with a 2h for a bit. You’ll also have to change your PvP talents a bit. I wouldn’t sink too much money into it, but you can get druid staves on the AH. It’s alright, but the fact that WF is weak, and you don’t even see the animation really, makes it just meh. I can’t wait for classic. Here I come old time shaman/paladin.
In M+ its extremely important, since your Earth Ele scales with your defensive stats, and Earth Ele is a very big boon for Ele in M+. No shield = Earth Ele is made of marshmellows.

Been running a staff for a while now and have noticed zero difference.
I just always mog any staff I get into new Sulfuras from Cata Firelands, but I guess if you can’t find one to go with your transmog it’s probably pretty annoying.
Sometimes I whip out my Gorehowl and remember the glory days of 2h Enhance, and old windfury, and windfury totems, and old windfury animations, and Earth Shock, and Frost Shock, and Healing Wave, annnnnd…awww geez.

Yep, ran the darkshore warfront and got a 385 staff from it 1st time…and it sits in my bag collecting dust.
Axe from last boss of Utgarde Keep and Korkron Dark Shaman set is my go to transmog when I use a staff.
I mean they aren’t the worst because when needing upgrades its nice to get the full upgrade with 1 drop. Obviously shield + 1H is the superior mog but can be annoying to search for 2 drops to get upgraded.
