I am sorry...it must be done

Can we be honest about something?

We all want a release date. There have been many threads created asking for one. I know they have seen these threads. I don’t want to pile on another “when is release date” thread. I want to argue for why they should either give us a release date or tell us when they will release a release date.

1. People have jobs

Many people want to enjoy the release of Classic this Summer. In order to do so to the maximum they must take days off of work. Some people respond to this saying that they should just take their leave at another time. Others say that it’s silly to take time off to play.

Neither of these two responses are reasonable. If people desire to take time off work to play a game it is up to them. People should not be scolded for this desire. We are 15 years removed from original Vanilla, most people who are returning have full time jobs and need a heads up.

2. The community WANTS a release date

From a public relations standpoint it only makes sense to give a release date. It actually makes Blizzard seem cold and uncaring the longer they ignore these posts. It would take only a few seconds to type out a response like: “We will give a release date in 2 weeks” or “The release will be in the month of June, we will give an exact date as we approach the time.”

3. Community development

Entire guilds will return. Friends will come back. They need time to set this up. They need a target date to meet and gather. They need time to look at a server list and choose.

4. Increases and capitalizes on hype

Imagine the hype that would be brought about by website countdowns and videos. Right now it is sort of awkward. There have been hundreds of podcasts created talking about every aspect of the game. We may actually be approaching a point where people are tired of waiting and may resort to private servers or another game off steam to quench their bordom and waiting.

What if they don’t want to continue on official blizzard servers when they play private? What if they buy a game on steam that they determine they would rather play? I suspect as each day passes, refusing to release a definitive date harms the hype and overall community moral.

Personally…

I need to put in for leave. I have been looking forward to Classic for over a year now. I have nothing to do on the PC at the moment that is fun to me. Retail doesn’t appeal to me. My money is waiting to be thrown at you. My time is waiting to be invested. I suspect this is the same for everyone else.

All we want now is a release date to plan. It is supposed to be a “Classic Summer”. Not “Classic end of Summer for two days lol we lied” or a “SURPRISE it releases in two weeks summer”.

TLDR: I just want a release date. This is my attempt. I am tired of checking my phone after lunch 500 times hoping to get a release date or some new news. Just tell us already!!!

They don’t have a release date because they don’t really know when they’ll be ready.

These people saying they want to take time off work don’t really seem to understand what vanilla was like. You didn’t take off a weekend, or even a week, to play vanilla.

You took off MONTHS. If you aren’t ready for your entire summer to be nothing but Classic, then you’re not really going to get much benefit out of taking time off to play.

Leveling was slower; gearing was slower, everything was slower.

I support your request. I need to do some serious planning around launch as well.

At the same time, as painful as it is, I want them to put that Blizzard™ polish on it. If that takes an extra month or two so be it.

I want classic to come out just as much as you… but it’s a video game… we don’t NEED it… we WANT it.

Wow…
I tap three swamps for black mana, and cast Summon Wall, Wall of Text.

Okay, I will tap two islands for blue mana and cast Counterspell.

Schedule your vacation for October.

I know, not a good answer. But you can’t expect Blizzard to announce a specific date until they are completely ready to do so. How would you feel if you scheduled a week off, and Classic had to be delayed a week?

You haven’t done systems work have you?

Most of the team is on schedule and on budget. The bulk of things are looking great and they are confident they will hit the 2019 Summer as announced. But right now, 2 or 3 experienced, power developers are scratching their heads over a couple curveballs that just surfaced. They will figure them out. It will come together. But at the moment they don’t know whether the problem will be solved Thursday or maybe a week from Wednesday.

hahaha…

My wife took Psychology at a local college. They told her sex was a need. If sex is a need then so is Classic WoW…

Release dates are great, but lets not act like they owe us an announcement on our schedule. To be fair, I think they’ll announce as early as they can—they want to build hype, they want it to succeed—not announcing is likely because they’re not ready to be bound to a specific date. Its been long enough that we can wait til its ready. Yes, inconvenience.

I’d like to get a release date too. But I’m sure that the reason there isn’t one is because they just don’t know yet. They are working hard on making the deadline, and have a lot to do.

It’s inconvenient, but understandable. I’m not going to begrudge Blizzard for having to take their time. It will be done when it’s done.

I would love a release date as much as the next person but I understand.

They have to under promise and over deliver and want to make sure they are 110% ready to go imo.

If we got a release date it would me I had a definitive timeline though for my race choice decision…

Here’s hoping they don’t announce a date, and one day this summer it just suddenly drops.

The rage would be glorious.

For the ‘authentic Vanilla experience’ you have to accept the Blizzard response of

It’ll be ready when its ready.

Any attempt to not accept that statement is inauthentic. #NoChanges.

Agreed. And lag, lots of disconnects, server crashes, and my favorite: falling through the floor.

I’m so screwed if I don’t know the release date a few months beforehand.

Sex is a physiological need because it creates a drive to be sated that is based on biological predispositions, aka animals crave sex. (According to the drive reduction theory anyway) Video game hype is a learned desire so it can’t be a “need”. But off topic so don’t mind me.

Lol, love the Magic the Gathering card uses there!

Ever think maybe Blizzard doesn’t want hype?

I’d understand if they want to have a staggered release by releasing at the same time as 8.2 but I’d think they’d want hype to bring back old subs.

Assumptions: old subs will come, if they build it. Existing subs won’t leave, if they build it.
