Could we not change the name to Wirt’s Peg Leg or maybe Wirt’s Wooden Arm?
Or is Wirt a reference to someone at Blizzard they do not wish to have in game any longer?

The problem isn’t with the name “Wirt.”
It’s with the phrase “third leg.”
Did they actually remove a reference to one of the biggest company jokes of all?
Holy hell.
Seems pointless since Wirt’s leg is a necessary item to use in Diablo 2. I mean, it comes off of Wirt’s body. They’re gonna upset more than the wow community if they change it anywhere but here
That is why I made proposals to keep Wirt.
Yes. It is now “Southsea Lamp.”
They won’t. Wirt’s two legs that drop in the Diablo series are his actual legs.
Wirt’s “third leg” that drops in WoW is not only completely non-canon; it’s a reference to a body part that isn’t a leg.
That’s the only reason it’s getting changed.
That is why I proposed different names that still keep Wirt for reference.
That way we can keep up the illusion that part doesn’t exist
They probably didn’t think there was any reason to reference Wirt any longer. The initial joke was that you could find his two existing legs. One leg in one game, his second leg in another, and now his “third leg” which… isn’t a leg.
Once you remove the juvenile reason for the reference, all you have is an item that references a character from a completely different franchise but doesn’t work as a joke at all.
Like, if I got an item called “Wirt’s Wooden Arm,” I’d go “oh yes, I remember Wirt… but… what? What does this mean? Why is this here?”
It’s more confusing than anything else.
But it is iconic to Blizzard games. It does not need to be a joke to still be fun and nice to have other games referenced.
We do have other references to other games in WoW already. I do not find it confusing. It is just homage or an Easter egg of sorts.
And as it is, while the innuendo is there, the third leg actually references his peg leg. So I think renaming it to Wirt’s Peg Leg would be fitting and still amusing that he lost both of his legs and now his peg leg.
Maybe, I just don’t think it would work. They clearly don’t want this item to be the actual wooden leg of Wirt, otherwise they would have reverted the name to the classic “Wirt’s Leg.” His flesh (now bone) leg is in Warcraft 3.
Neither of his arms are wooden, so getting “Wirt’s Wooden Arm” to drop would make about as much sense as getting “Jaina’s Nintendo 64.”
Although to be fair, I never actually took “Wirt’s Third Leg” to mean… well, that. Maybe Blizz is being ultra careful about possible references considering Wirt is canonically a child.
If I had to make a recommendation, I would probably make an item called something like “Wirt’s original leg,” “Wirt’s crutch,” or “Wirt’s prototype” to maintain that it is still one of three legs of wirt (and have it be an actual leg) while keeping the inter-franchise reference intact.
I would be happy with any version that woul keep Wirt in the game.
I always figured that Wirt had an assortment of peg legs (lord knows he was rich enough to have dozens), and this one was the third from his peg leg wardrobe.
They should put that flavor text on it and make it Wirt’s Fashionable Peg Leg!
Can’t a guy have a spare prosthetic leg or two? Why must he be limited to only using the one prosthetic leg?
Honestly if your mind went in a different and dirtier direction, that is on you
I wasn’t aware this was an actual thing, but… to be fair, google searching “third leg” does confirm its slang usage in the very first result.
think wirt was a sexual reference back in the day, welcome to woke society, where everything we don’t agree with offends us to the point of canceling it if it’s not changed
It is why it is an innuendo. One could assume that it means his “little manhood” or it could just be another prosthetic leg he has (well had) lying around. Given that the item is shaped like a peg leg…
Blizzard could’ve still had it be a Wirt reference, just rename it to his spare leg or something. But no, we can’t have fun in this game anymore. And that includes innuendos.
And that is the point of an innuendo. Your mind is meant to go to the “dirtier” interpretation when it is an innocent phrase. Like someone referring to their pet cat with the word pussy (as seen numerous times in Are you being served). Or someone pumping a flat tire with air while being blocked by the car. Making it look like they are doing something else.
I grew up watching comedies like Allo’ Allo’ and Are you being served. So I guess I tolerate sexual innuendos when they are funny.
If anyone who is part of the Woke crowd watched ANY scene from either of those shows or shows of a similar nature… I will have my popcorn ready.
I always hated that kid. I’m glad the demons ate him in D2.
Oddly though, I never considered anatomy “dirty”
