They aren’t dragons.
Absolutely this. I hate the visage form and literally only use it because flying as a dracthyr ron a dragon looks god awful.
Because you are an abomination created by Neltharion when he tried to create the perfect soldier. As with all of his experiments, it appears it didn’t work well. Perhaps it was because he combined the body of a female worgan with the head of a scrawny dragon and plucked the wings off of a demon hunter.
Who cares. Druids already can fly. It’s a fictional universe. It’s weird seeing people devoted to the lore of a game the same way evangelicals are devoted to only certain aspects of the bible.
Neither worgen or demonhunters existed when Dracthyr were created. They’re literally just elite dragonkin. THey’ve also been shown to be able to fly great distances with ease.
No they’re dragonkin though, and they have wings. They even STATE they can fly great distances and every dracthyr we see can fly just fine without limits. This argument keeps popping up but it’s not what we’re saying.
How? They copy pasted demon hunters and changed a few answers.
Really confused why they didn’t do that. If dragon riding isn’t unlocked for the account yet, or in a zone that doesn’t have dragon riding available (anywhere outside the dragon isles currently), then Soar functions as it currently does as a cooldown.
If however dragon riding is unlocked for the account and in a dragon riding accessible zone, then just use ones own wings and the dragonriding system as is with all pertinent glyph unlocks.
It is 0 functional benefit over a non-dracthyr in dragon riding useable places, as it is functionally identical to mounting a dragon, just visually using ones own wings, and in non-dragon riding place or if dragon riding is not yet account unlocked, is useable as it is currently.
We see the Dracthyr NPC’s using their own wings to go everywhere, and yet the big wings permanently on our backs are for show most of the time.
They must have existed since the development team used those assets to make the race. Why else wouldn’t they have created a brand new race from scratch.
Deathwing, didn’t combine those assets is what I’m saying.
Because they dont know the function of what wings can do.
They are not smart people… and it actually shows in game and out.

it seems silly to give them wings when they have to fly on a dragon anyways.
The wings are for their Soar racial.
Dracthyr can’t fly for a couple of reasons.
First, you’re not a shape changing class like Druids. There would need to be some mechanic to transition them to “flight mode”.
Second, Dragonriding is not going to last past Dragonflight. They’re simply not going to keep it for new content, and they’re not going to allow it for old content.
Third, “Well how about normal flight then”, then, much the like the Druid shape change, you would change into DR mode in Dragon Isles, but as a normal flight mode everywhere else. Here come the screaming and yelling about how players want normal flight in DI, and not DR for their Dracthyr.
So, simply, it’s not worth all of the drama and headache for a one off power that’s not going to last anyway.

And every single player would have been completely fine with just making them pick any of the already available races for the visage form instead of making new models and systems…
Wouldn’t break the lore or immersion if they ever change their minds. Not too late to offer that customization.

How? They copy pasted demon hunters and changed a few answers…
Easy to assume with troubles like flying, visages, and lack of attire. Hasn’t been any logic why they can’t wear clothes.

We literally have a mechanic that turns us into “flight mode” and the animations there. Not sure what else the’d need to add but I highly doubt it’s that complex.

Second, Dragonriding is not going to last past Dragonflight. They’re simply not going to keep it for new content, and they’re not going to allow it for old content.
Need a source for this. Dragonriding is popular enough with players that it has a decent chance of continuing in conjuction with normal flight. We don’t know either way, but it’s been talked about continuing it forward.

So, simply, it’s not worth all of the drama and headache for a one off power that’s not going to last anyway.
Dragonriding isn’t borrowed power. At least not in the sense that convenants are. It’s objectively fun and they’ve stated that they’ll at least consider bringing it forward.
Soar had a very niche use on the dragon isles very early on when we weren’t all maxxed out on dragonriding. Now it’s kind of pointless. I just use it whenever the mood strikes me and when i’m able to make it to my destination without all the extra perks of dragonriding.

We have wings… They just need to make it a button. Worgen have running wild and it’s the same idea.

They aren’t dragons.
I wasn’t aware that dragons were the only flying creatures in the warcraft universe. /s
Dracthyr are more than capable of flying, you see the NPCs doing it all the time, it’s partially baked into your kit as an evoker. At the end of the evoker starting area you literally fly to Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms.
Dracthyr NPCs talk about how much faster flying would be than walking all the time.
What sword.
I feel like they used a different sized rig or something so if they wanted to add all the old armour they would need to resize them and stuff. But who knows lol. Probably came down to giving them armour or spending time stealing breast milk.
There’s one reason why dracthyr can’t fly: because it’s too fun, and blizzard can’t have us having too much fun.
I use visage because the health regen racial when out of combat is pretty silly
It is pretty nice, example:

Oooh I bet that’s nice in the 2 seconds between combat running around the world or M+
Don’t do M+, although the visage buff is party wide, not just oneself so it could potentially be useful there. In the in actuality significantly longer time one often finds themselves not in combat in the world, yes it definitely is.
For the also often very short time between mobs, true not as much.
