FFXIV marks you as a new player next to your nameplate, and people get extra bonuses for doing certain things with new players. I found it to be very new player friendly, though the pace and style of the game weren’t for me.
This is very true.
FFXIV’s friendliness to newcomers is entirely dependent on what you look for in an MMO.
If you’re looking for a game that emphasizes its community and story over endgame content and mechanics/meta progression, FFXIV is definitely something you’ll want to look into. It has an endgame progression system in place, and there are CE guilds (free companies) that push the hardest content available, but this isn’t really the point of the game. You can deck out your character in some of the best gear available without ever touching a raid/trial, and every class has a job-specific questline to obtain their BiS weapon that you upgrade throughout an expansion. The hardest content offers gear that you can get only in that content, but it’s an arguably trivial upgrade considering most of the endgame content doesn’t concern itself with raid logging and number crunching like WoW does.
The endgame of FFXIV covers a wide spectrum of activities, otherwise. When I get frustrated with WoW, I typically go play FFXIV because its lack of laser-focused endgame progression is a nice change of pace. It’s mainly comprised of mini-games and storylines that are entirely optional, + main story quests that are added with each patch in an expansion.
That said, if the endgame is something you really only care about, then FFXIV is difficult to get into. Unlike World of Warcraft, where the content available to you is gated by what level you are, FFXIV’s content is entirely gated by the main story quests. You have to play the entire story from its release back in 2013 up to Shadowbringers. There is no skipping this outside of a boost sold in the in-game shop (I believe it puts you up to Level 70, which is the start of Shadowbringers). Most of the dungeons you can’t access until you reach a certain part in the story that involves you queueing up for it. Everything is centered around it, so if you wanted to buy FFXIV with the intention of blasting through it, then you may want to consider something else. FFXIV’s story is good and worth experiencing, even if you aren’t into story-based MMOs, but the game basically asks you to invest 200+ hours just to even start experiencing relevant content. They recently put in a patch that reduced the amount of postgame quests for A Realm Reborn there were (a lot of the quests were fetch quests/running between capital cities for hours at a time), but even with this reduction, it’s still an arduous task just playing all the expansions and base game.
However, if that’s something that doesn’t bother you, then FFXIV is 100% worth looking at. I believe you get a free sub with the purchase of the game, so it’s definitely in your benefit to check it out, at the very least.
Can you clarify…? Sounds like you didn’t do anything wrong. But I’m not understanding why you quit or what you did? The auction over there is called market board fyi, one in every major city. Asking for help cannot get you banned for wanting to know where market board is.
The issue they have is their old world content doesn’t draw people in. It repels them. It’s a LOT of back of forth across the map. Fortunately, they value their players time, and choose to let you teleport to a lot of locations without silly 30 minute cooldowns or things like that, so you do get through it at a reasonable rate.
It’s also near to 200 quests or so to finish the main game’s storyline once you add in all the class quests, and ARR’s crystal tower. It becomes a bit of a slog for the last portion of ARR. They could reasonably trim around half of it and you’d never really notice the difference from a story perspective. They’ve already trimmed it once but it needs a lot more it’s just way too long.
I’ve just recently made it into the first expac in FF14, and once there, it really gets better. Classes open up a bit with more abilities, the story pacing and storyline are both much better, but there’s still a HUGE amount of questing to be done. Once you finish that expac, you have Stormblood and then finally m ake it to the current one. If your target is end game, I could easily see it taking 150+ hours to get there based on what I’ve done so far. Especially so if you play healers or tanks.
I would say to avoid MMORpgs and stick to either Single player , co-op or pvp games. They require too much investment and in almost all of them you are gonna be always left behind .
It’s also worth noting that you can play FFXIV completely for free with no time limit up to level 60, which includes the base game and its first expansion. So it’s very easy/low commitment to check out.
If what my ex boyfriend said was true, it just discourages me at playing the game. I’m so used to spontaneous and free interaction (ofc within the moral bounderies) of wow
same goes with league of legends, you can get banned for being innovative and going off meta which is dumb and i stopped playing within an hour or two after trying the game out
I appreciate all of these responses!!
Thank y’all! <3
If you want something sort of rpgish but can be done alone or with friends if they are playing, Valheim is fun. It won’t last forever because there isn’t much endgame but if you like gathering, crafting, building and exploring its worth a try.
I am still very confused…can you explain to me what you were asking? As an avid player of FFXIV, I could tell you if its a bannable action or not.
Make a full-blown castle…that will take a long time and keep you busy.
