I actually quite agree with this take

A few days ago Asmongold the lord had a take about wow pvp and especially retail pvp in particular he said he thought it was dead and has been since mop.

I agree with this one as if you look at the shuffle ladder its literally on any given class the same 4 people generally on like 6 alts and then ofc normal bgs are just the same 4 or 5 premades all day long pretty dead.

He then went on to list his reasoning one was that its to complex and there is to much button bloat which i certainly agree with (its only getting worse next xpac lul).

Also that the reward for being good at it is so much lower than every other game in the industry which is very true if you just look at what blizzard is willing to give as compared to a company like riot.

And then lastly that the gap between people who have sweated the game for 17 years and people who are just starting is far to vast to ever be closed especially with how many layers there are in the game today.

I don’t agree with this at all. I am drawn to what I consider a medium level of complexity somewhere between Diablo and StarCraft

I do agree that there should be better rewards though, but there are literally people who whine that pvp rewards are not accessible enough to them and having unique rewards for pvp is denying them their god-given right to acquire every pixel in the game

The game is super complex.

Ive been playing for about 6months now and have only ever been in resto spec and im still learning different talent tree configurations.

Now we can chalk some of this up to me not being an elite player but it still takes a hell of a long time to learn a spec let alone an entire class.

And to be good at pvp you need to know every single spec in the game and how they work and how they all interact with each other.

yep so you can know how to counter

Asmongolds point was that is far to much time investment for what little you can realistically get out of wow pvp

and then if you add all the other things like macros , addons , professions, alchemy stuff pots the learning curve for new players is ridiculous

Its a true thread the most influencial person and its not close in the wow sphere has spoken on wow pvp

i think the race you are looking for is troll, not goblin

Can loook at Seramate leaderboards for numbers. There are currently 44k for rating from 0-2900 in 3v3s. So this season 3v3 is down. But RSS has 153k

Here’s some 3v3 numbers covering some history.

Legion S1 = 359.000 characters (very rough estimate)

BFA S2 = 314.000 characters

BFA S3 = 306.000 characters -2,6% of characters

BFA S4= 589.000 characters + 92,5% growth of characters on ladder

SL S1= 952.000 characters + 61,6% growth

SL S2 = 480.000 characters - 51,7%

SL S3 = 188.000 characters - 60,8%

SL S4 = 143.000 characters - 24,4 %

DF S1= 393.000 characters + 275% growth of characters on ladder

DF S2 = NA 147k EU 126k* = 273.000 characters - 31,6% drop

so far DF S3 = (going from r1 numbers on official website)= 46k EU + 140k NA = 186k

Anyway, expect pvp to pop back in TWW. 3v3 to continue to do poorly relative to RSS and Rated Blitz and for random/epic bgs to be fine.

Eh, sort of. Don’t need to know the specifics of a lot of stuff. The biggest thing for ranked pvp is that nobody is willing to play with somebody who isn’t gonna carry them for free.

Like anything asmon says there is always some truth in it. He’s a pretty smart guy. Smart enough to figure out how to make millions of dollars playing wow and streaming it. So listening to what he has to say is probably not a bad thing to a point. I have largely agreed with a lot of what asmon says and would peobably watch more but he’s so greasy. Like alanis morrisette greasy. He needs to shower and cut that hair jeezuz….but yeah otherwise I like his content

He’s gotten a lot better actually

This is the worst take ever. Lets look at the RFW for example. Something that blizzard puts 0 into and is more successful financially and more viewed than the other blizzard funded pvp/pve events. It has nothing to do with what blizzard is willing to put into it but rather what the viewer is and how many of them exist. In this case its not enough and too little and we know this as the 5 privately sponsored pvp events failed horribly as landed a net loss.

There don’t seem to be very many of them which tied into another point… which is that the game is unwatchable from the outside in because of the overcomplexity of it.

Again bad take using the rwf as the example. It’s way more complex to track in not only does it have all the same “button bloat” it has way more addons, WA’s and not only follow the boss but 20 other players in comparison to the 6 of pvp.

lol yeah i mean the button bloat is a thing. i feel bad for ferals.
gone are the days of being a little shadow priest and just spamming devouring plague to duelist back at the end of wrath

IMO complaining about the game being too complex is a cover for wanting to be naturally good at the game up front without any learning or time investment. the problem is easy games tend to get boring after a while and people stop playing them.

i think its okay for pvp to be complex and have a lot of depth of mastery. pvpers are essentially wow’s most elite players, statistically that is always going to be a smaller portion of the population.

This is the character that he uses to derive his income.

A lot of the good YouTubers are good at being actors.

You discover a character which drives engagement and stick to it.
