Hunters! What pets are you after in Classic?

Barnabus. He was my first rare tame. And I got him out of pure luck. He was by my side throughout Vanilla and is still in my stable to this day.

Sian Rotam. Took me forever to find a Hordie to do the quest. Best looking Cat in game IMHO.

Broken Tooth. Just because I camped for 7+ hours to get him. Though by 1.12 his attack speed is normalized. But back in the day he made many a caster cry…

I used to keep a cat (frost saber) (brokentooth for pvp), a Wolf (buff), and a scorpion (poison/interrupt in PvP) . At one point I tamed a wind serpent in ZG, can’t remember why… but I ended up not keeping it…

I loved Lupos and Brokentooth.

One of the Razorfens also had a ghost boar that would spawn as part of some fight mechanic. If you tamed it, it kept the ghost form.

I don’t know much about hunters, but when I inevitably make one I will be gunning for a ghost saber up until I can get my hands on a ZG murderbat.

Any Vanilla Hunters here able to vouch for raiding Wind Serpents? Or is it truly Wolf or Die? I’ve been doing research on old Vanilla and hypothetical Classic guides saying that Wind Serpents with the highest rank of Lightning Breath (from Son of Hakkar in Zul’Gurub) was a good choice for pet DPS as the winged nope rope could attack from a safe distance in an era where pets die a lot more easily.

Purple Winterspring Tiger or Nothing at all baby.

Is this confirmed? I had not heard that pet speeds were going to be normalized in Classic. If that’s the case it will change my pet plans considerably.

Pet speeds were normalized prior to 1.12, so that the faster attacking ones did not do more DPS. They still retain that attack speed so you’ll still murder casters with Broken Tooth.

Pet run speed was normalized in 1.9, the attack speed was not normalized until TBC.

This.

The research I have done shows that pet damage was normalized in 1.9 (Lupos shadow damage, etc) and attack speeds were normalized in 2.0.

If that is the case, Broken Tooth and the ZG murderbats should both be gtg for Classic.

Right. They didn’t do more damage is my point, they had the attack speed they had before but the faster attacks didn’t make them do more DPS. So BT is still something every Hunter should want - especially if they want to PvE with it, since bats are a weaker DPS than cats.

Yep, each family has their own set damage, the speed will not make more overall damage. It’s actually more of an interrupt effect on casters that’s sought after.
Cat damage is higher at 1.10 than the bat at 1.07.

Fair point. I can’t remember which was the preferred PvP pet, but I do know that BT was good prior to ZG for the attack speed. We’ll have to see if ZG hits fast enough that every Hunter in the world isn’t camping Badlands. I think it was 1.8 that they normalized pet damage, making them do all the same damage as others in the same family and changing Lupos’s damage? Prior to that they did do more DPS.

I’m reading the info on https://www.wow-petopia.com/classic/.
It suggests that at 1.12 pet family’s still had variants on dps. I hope this is true, I’m not here for a " normalized" game :smirk_cat:

As far as I know cats all had the same DPS in PvE (faster attacks = smaller hits but more often), but I could be wrong. If not, that’s still cool! Just means it’s gonna be harder to tame the specific best ones.

Aye, especially if they are elites :smiley_cat:

Lupos and BrokenTooth for sure

broken tooth with its 1.0 attack speed i herd he was slating people back then.

broken tooth is still 1.0 to this day.
