i’m curious what kind of pets other hunters use, and why. do you use the default one you start with? do you tame one that more fits your toon? do you tame the ‘best’ pet for pvp? cause, i’m thinking starting my 5th hunter, and would like some ideas of pets for them.
I use the green porcupine (spirit beast) and RP it as a hard-light hologram pet.
He’s also my little buddy that was with me when I got Herald of the Titans, so he’s special to me.
I have Lightning Paw on both of my hunters. Really cool pet, even if it does look a little dated graphically. I wish they’d redo the spirit beast models. I also wish I could use a spirit beast as a different spec. Beast Mastery can get a little boring.
My hunter is Sayre-Mal’Ganis, for reference.
MOST of the time I run with Nevermore (renamed “Snow”) for my lust pet.
I also have Grape, my Gara tame for the Spirit Beast family.
And Hexapos for water walking.
I like to keep some slots free for fun tames I stumble across.
All my hunters us different pets - and they have to be a set (hello OCD lol).
One has two Ghostcrawler crabs, another has a set of Hatis, another a set of mechanical squirrels (and a mechanical squirrel mini-pet) and so on. Also, their names have to make sense as a pair.
Well, I’d LIKE to use a Quiraji Scarab on my hunter, but due to the pet changes forcing pet families to be locked to a specific spec, I can’t.
Bone Spiders and various Worgs.
A red core hound. I was in awe of them when I first saw them so of course I had to have one as soon as they became tameable. Also helps that his specials are great.
It used to be a Draenor spikey boar since I’m a proper Orc boy but they got changed to cunning and aren’t as great to use.
Yeah if you’re BM it’s hard to argue with getting a spirit beast of some sort. The porcupine from MOP (green for me) is my favorite, but the white leopard one from WOTLK is really cool too especially if you can think of a good RP element to it. The healing and dispel from the spirit beast is quite strong.
For my survival hunter I use a scaleback, a lizard, and bat from Zandalar right now. They pretty much give me everything I need. Scaleback gives passive leach and a bloodlust, so super nice for Mythic+ where you don’t have a lust already. The lizzard, that’s more my vanilla choice as it has a blanket damage reduction use ability. Then the bat, which is kind of OP for 5 man’s in my opinion. It has both a bloodlust and the offensive dispel/purge. Very strong in 5 mans with mechanics that can be purged.
Im loving the mechanical squirrel idea!
Names like Cookies and Cream?
I kind of like classic pets. Often use normal bears and pandaren tigers the most, usually the white or black colors for both. I just like the way they look. Sometimes Draenor wolves too.
Hyena for most situations. Wolf for old content / the occasional M+.
I use raptors cause they are the best for pvp and look awesome
I have a couple of lowbie hunters, but my highest one (L84 currently) has always stuck to simpler pets. Most often used is his purple winterspring tiger, with his fiery orange wind serpent being second and his nether ray and sporebat tying for third. He should probably pick up a turtle or bear at some point too.
Never been one for flashy pets.
On that note, Blizz please remaster more of the cat models! The newer tigers are great but there’s a ton of other types of cats who need some high polygon love.
Pink Tallstrider.
Talking about this one, who is my main, I use one pet of each family + a spirit beast.
Tenacity: Horridon
Horridon is my choice because my hunter is named after Horridon’s master, Jalak.
Ferocity: Oondasta
To fit the Zandalari theme.
Cunning: A green Skyscreamer from MoP.
I wanted to tame one of those since I first saw them in MoP. It’s my favorit pet, and it has a slow fall hability.
For my Spirit Beast, I choose Gon, because it’s the only spirit dinosaur.
If you check up my stables, you’ll see I tamed every dinosaur models and colors (starting from MoP skins).
I love leveling hunters to have thematic stables for each race. Currently leveling my 5th hunter, wich is a mag’har orc.
For my Beast Mastery Hunter especially for soloing I pick the Clefthoof which is definitely a great Ferocity pet due to these pet talents.
-
Predators Thirst
You and your pet gain 10% Leech -
Thick Hide
When falling below 40% health, the Clefthoof’s skin will thicken, granting 60% reduced incoming damage for 15 sec. -
Blood of the Rhino
The Clefthoof has 10% additional armor and increases the effectiveness of healing received by 20%.
Usually a hexed goat I got in Drustvar. He seems to be quite sturdy and does good damage, holds aggro well too. Plus he looks cool as the hexed effect remained after taming him.
Depends on the character. The latest and the one I’ve wanted for a while was a Yak. Soon as I saw they were available to be tamed I was out getting one.
I believe they are named Frick and Frack lol.
