Hunters performance PVP

Hello my dear Hunter Community. I want to ask a little of an overview of this class for PVP purposes, I love and it and I know it has good potential but I am unfortunately noticing that a few caster classes are just pouring massive crits and I feel a deep struggle facing them (specially Priests and Warlocks) . Any guidance on how to train oneself in the hunter ways, which players to watch or guides to read. I’m open to any recommendations, I really want to master my class.

Thank you all in advance.

You’re not going to get good advice here, I recommend the hunter discord.

-Hunter is the least represented class to play at the high end of arenas in all brackets.
-There are multiple bugs weighing the class down like trap arming time being too long.
-Hunter is widely considered the hardest class to play in arenas. This is of course subjective.

Where to even begin? Research spec (mm is the way), pets(ravager/crab), gearing (heavily raid dependant), compositions, macros, and addons.

Casters are landing casts on you? Inexcusable unless you are CC’d while they are casting. You can stop enemy casts with: Silence Shot, Ravager Pet Stun, Feign Death, Scatter Shot, Deterrence, and then you can readiness and do all of these AGAIN. You can also simply outrange or LoS casts. Avoiding casts wisely is fundamental to existing at high arena rating as a hunter.

I also recommend watching homerjay on twitch. He is the best hunter in the world and isn’t elitist about giving advice to new players.

Google Wotlk mm hunter pvp warmane, the best hunter in the game’s guide will show up.

He is also the rank 1 hunter team in EU and played in may tourneys. AKA Homerjay

also don’t listen to the forums, MM hunter is one of the strongest classes in wotlk, it just has a very high skill cap and about 35 keybinds and macros, which the average classic player comes from retail, so they avoid the class.

It’s one of the best 1v1 classes when mastered and one of the few classes that has comps that counter Disc/rog and arms/Hapala in 2s

and can play jungle in 3s which counters Lock shaman/druid and RLS which 3s are infested with.

Classic players always resort to the easiest classes to play and call all classes that have more than 4 keybinds “bad”

Everything else you said is true, but if you are using all that stuff in arenas to stop casters from casting into you, then you are playing hunter wrong. Hunter’s strong point in pvp is using that stuff to CC, not using it on a random lock, or w/e caster you are playing against, that is casting damage into the hunter.

I’m not saying there are no situations that you don’t use that stuff on caster, but most of the time those abilities are going into healers or w/e your cc target is. Saying casters landing stuff on you is inexcusable is just wrong.

Of course. Most of the time you are using scatter to actually CC someone, sometimes into a trap, sometimes just the scatter. Silence is completely situational on anyone in the arena, a good hunter with have silence 123 (3 separate keybinds, one for each enemy in a 3’s match), and use it situationally. Into caster teams, this is USUALLY to avoid incoming damage from a caster and not used on a healer, however again, it’s all incredibly situational. And comp dependant. Are you playing PHP? then you need to go for quicker kills because your pally and priest will run out of CD’s and eventually your team will lose. Are you playing PHD? Then you can generally use all cc to interrupt offensive casters because you will eventually win with raw unhealable damage by ooming the enemy healer or running them out of cooldowns.

Inexcusable might have been too extreme of language, there are situational times where you are in a shadowfury/coil/feared and don’t want to trinket, or can’t trinket, and must tank damage. There are times where taking 1 cast of damage is harmless. However, PvP is fast. Arenas are fast. Do you want to take this risk? The very best will know what they can get away with almost always, but for beginner advice, a very solid rule of thumb is just to avoid everything. It’s very difficult for a beginner to know when you are going to get globaled by LSP or fire/ele or boomkin/ele etc. Why not just use a feign to stop every cast off CD? Why not just silence? Sure, scatter is a bigger commit, so is deterrence. All situational. Avoiding damage keeps you offensive, backfoots them, prevents future damage, hunter 3’s are momentum heavy.

You’re right, thanks for keeping me in check, mr. rival priest sir.

You’re posting on an alt.

Yes there priest? They are posting on an alt. I am posting on an alt. Like you mean forum posting alt or toon that is our main alt? Cuz either way this is an alt of mine and no where near my main.

What?

I’m only calling them out for posting on an alt because they are attacking me over my character’s arena rating while hiding behind an alt…

I don’t care if people post on alts and just have discussions, but don’t hide behind them.
