Hi all, I enjoy playing Hunter (leveling/questing) over other classes, but as I read (not sure if its outdated info) Hunter’s dps scales bad towards late game especially raid… I enjoy playing Rogue too and im not sure if I should continue Rogue for late game purposes… I’m not min/max kinda player… casual or more than a casual player… enjoy questing leveling and maybe wPvP or BG eventually…so far I enjoy both Rogue and Hunter of course Hunter levels easier and Rogues are better for wPvP but I read even Hunters are good for that, but I’m afraid Rogue will be a better main for long term play… I like how Vanish works for reset… but I’m looking forward even more to Feign Death (5min vs 30sec)…
I read a lot about Hunters being easy to level, but suffers in end game compared to other classes… please share your thoughts and advise if I should stick to Hunter or Rogue
The nice thing about Hunter is that you have low gear requirements. The bad thing about Hunter is that you don’t need gear to do your job, so you’ll be very low priority on gear. You’ll be given class-specific stuff pretty quickly because of how few Hunters there are in a group.
Rogue is an S tier DPS class. You have higher gear requirements, but if you’re any good, groups will throw loot at you. Downside is there’s thousands of rogues, so you’ll need to stand out or face lots of loot competition.
Only a handful of talent specs spread throughout all the classes don’t fall apart in Vanilla/Classic past the dungeon level. Some worse than others, & in some cases the entire class suffers in raiding due to its basic core design (such as pets being a lot less useful in raids, overall), or due to horrible gear itemization and/or non-useful tier gear. That’s just the way Vanilla was. TBC eventually addressed a lot of those issues, though isn’t perfect either.
Hunter’s wing clip makes the a good choice for applying the nightfall axe debuff to raid bosses. But just hold out for TBC classic, most of the less useful specs were made useful enough to at least consider in lieu of “traditional” specs and classes. Which is why the warriors flooded the forums with QQ until blizzard dutifully and repeatedly swung the nerf bat at the classes who were no longer free HK’s
thanks guys for all the input and info.
so back to my question, since I enjoy playing both Rogue and Hunter (very similar), should I just play the Rogue to avoid all these issues on Hunter’s late game?
Also, I read Hunters are equally good at wPvP, but from my experience, if a Rogue is on you, there’s pretty much nothing you can do but die (on Hunter)…so when I read about Hunters being good at wPvP, i always wonder how do they counter Rogues…
Its not like you cant pull enough dps to not be worth a spot. Just find a guild who isnt trying for record clear times and you’ll have fun as a hunter.
There is a lot of depth to their pve mechanics compared to most classes.
In pvp, yes a rogue will full cooldowns really shouldn’t lose but If they are caught in the open or not fully prepared, which happens alot in bgs / world pvp, a hunter can absolutely blow them apart.
Hunters are bottom of the barrel in pvp in this version of classic bud.
abusable Leeway and the atrocious spell batching (simulated lag herrrp) is very bad for hunter.
For casuals, yea hunters not bad. But if you run up against the goods they gunna get that free hk if you’re a hunter.
what i mean by good is I can mouseover target pet when you fd instantly and it won’t let u drop trap ;D
Not many people are pre targeting pet because they just aren’t very good in pvp but this classic is not ANYTHING close to what hunter pvp was in actual classic years ago.
Its rough to solo pvp sometimes as hunter because people have found ways to abuse the silly mechanics that classic has to kinda cheese duels. They are still good in group battles though due to controlling the field with frost traps, scouting and tracking with eagle eye, having the range to hit the enemies rear and decent burst setup when you have mates to peel or distract.
yea i kinda got ganked by a rogue (he was 4 lvls ahead of me though) i could have ignored him but intentionally went back to him 5 times (of course 5 deaths) just to see how bad being dead zoned… not sure why i read so frequent people mention hunter is in good spot for world pvp… most of the time you don’t get to hit someone from far (not that far its slightly father than mages)
but i think questing and leveling, FD is really fun though its like having vanish every 30 secs…
Scatter shot and detterence help so much vs melee. Also grab some anti venom to remove their slowing poison. Pvp trinket and iron grenades if you have engineering.
You are trying to keep them off you in between scatter >feign death > ice traps so you can get aimed shots.
Boar with charge roots them for a sec.
If you get far enough to concussive you can switch to cheetah aspect just cancel it if they get close again, you can do this to get enough time to multi >auto then keep running.
PvP Trinket the kidney shot, scatter freezing the rogue. Use a poison cleanse consumable after the kidney if no trinket. Get to max range, mark the rogue. Not a guarantee esp considering rogue cooldowns, but that’s about the best you can start, and it’s better than many classes get vs rogue
Thats old classic and don’t let anyone tell you any different. Just go out and find hunters to attack and abuse this atrocious system they have in place they’re calling classic.
Hunters for me on melee is pretty much free HK. Get your slow up and its gg
The funniest part is when I charge to them and they trap me but because the way spell batching works i get hamstring off 100% of the time… By the time the trap breaks they’re NOT out of Leeway range so i re-apply hamstring lol
Honestly play the class you want. In my experience you wont have trouble joining a guild or getting into raids. People are looking for filling out a 40 man raid roster more than the raid comp.
Play hunter and to your Rok’delar quest by yourself. You’ll never want to go back. The class is so much fun and rewarding.
You’re the best world pvp class in the game. With max range kiting and skill no one shoudl be able to touch you. If a rogue gets the jump just do the steps already mentioned. Once max range get open with AA into serpant sting for the vanish.
They bring True shot aura, and because Melee are a dominant source of DPS, you will need 1 hunter per melee group.
Hunters have insane burst damage, and without moving help burst down dangerous adds that melee would need to also help with, but you are there first while we are on down time on certain things. That flexibility in range is a strong tool.
Hunter also provides NR for alliance and groups where shaman are not.
Here’s what hunters at the highest level can and can’t do:
In PvP hunters are amongst the best DPS classes, especially in WSG. They are able to delete key-targets from a safe distance, require minimal support and provide insane utility without sacrificing much.
In PvE hunters are absolutely essential but NOT as dps. A hunters job in a high-end raid-team is to set up pulls, a skill set that requires you to know the raid and it’s patrols inside-out whilst also being able to judge your raids abilities perfectly. You have to consider killspeed, healer-mana, tank-availability, etc.
I always like to point people to this video when referencing high-level PvE hunters - plays like 7:30 can make or break a raid right there:
