Hunters and Mana in WOTLK

So I’ve mained a hunter all of TBC, plan to keep him as my character in wrath as well. I switched to MM, and the whole going OOM thing so fast is hella annoying. In a raid setting, in WOTLK, how bad is this issue? I never played a hunter back then so I can’t recall. I know Viper Sting with Chimera Shot helps recover some mana, and Aspect of the Viper regens mana very quickly, at the cost of 50% damage reduction. Does it get better?

No, it doesn’t. You will have to learn how to manage your mana a lot better and when to stay in and out of Viper.

For boss fights, it’s going to depend on how fast your raid kills things. Once people have gear and bosses die relatively fast, you should not go OOM on boss fights if you play it right (and obvious have the right mana-restoring buffs, etc.), even without using aspect of the viper.

On trash we’re probably just gonna be OOM the entire time, drinking as much as possible between pulls and dipping into viper a bit. Again this depends on your raid and how quickly you are chain pulling stuff. If you have a 10 second break in between every pull then you’ll be fine.

So for trash you will want to always use viper sting on a mob with mana, it gives you massive mana back, before it runs out you can chimera shot to refresh it while doing your AOE rotation.

On bosses it shouldn’t be that bad if your raid uses judgment of wisdom which they should be, it gives you a flat % of your mana back on proc.

Don’t be afraid to go into viper as it will give you half a mana bar in like 10 seconds.
