Hunters agree on one topic: PET REWORK

Many hunters want a pet rework. It’s the one thing we do agree on.

The current version of the pet system does not allow much choice, if any. Many of the pet families don’t function in PvE or PvP. All of the pets the pets that have self placed defensive buffs are pretty useless in most content in the game.

This means you end up seeing many of the same pets in PvE and PvP. For a game that is increasingly about players choice, your companion as a hunter doesn’t feel like one.

I have been cursing wow devs for this for years. If i have to go through the rest of wow only being able to use a raptor in PVP im going to uninstall. Its ridiculous. Pet family tree abilities are pointless. They are so slapdash and terrible its laughable. A dispel that only works on the pet itself. A triggered extra dodge chance. Its pointless. With transmog being such a key part of the game, as well as collecting mounts and pets, its fun for hunters to be able to combine pets, mounts and their transmog. This is made pointless when you force all PVP hunters to use the same pet family. With such a big focus on talent trees, just give us back pet talent trees. They were not complicated. It was intuitive.

I liked pet spec and talents tbh.

Yeah as a mostly PvP player I hate that I’ve been limited to carrion birds and raptors when I’ve wanted different companion for years now.

It doesn’t even change in PvE.

We always get access to new hunter pets each expansion but can never be excited about them because they end up being the wrong combination of abilities.

Yeah iv given up at this point. Playing with talents is FUN. Whats not fun is having to use the same damn pet model that doesnt go with my character fantasy at all. It feels terrrrrible.

I wouldn’t even mind a return to that as well. Any system that isn’t the current one.

My other suggestion is changing dire beats to work with pet fantasy as well. Set up a “Temporary Pets” field of slots in the stable. This way only pets you put in the temporary pets gets summoned for dire beasts. As it is know i feel like i can only have one type of pet in my stable , otherwise random beasts that dont fit with my character design get summoned. This should also affect stampede

While we’re at it they should also add a warband feature to stables. I’m not one of the people with 100 hunter alts but I know there are plenty of players that are. I’m sure no one wants to camp for their 15th exotic spirit beast.

Never considered this but blizz dear god it your listening…

It would also help with hunter confusion on how pets work and what pet to use. Hunters are largely considered one of the easier classes to pick up, maybe difficult to master, but easy to pick up and play. One of the most common questions i get from people who do not main hunter but use alts instead, is what pets they should use for what situation. When they realize they have to use the same exact pet as everyone else, they tend to be disappointed.

Yeah when I have new people join the game the generally don’t even think about it and tame what they want, then later they realize they can’t use their favorite companions.

i dont think players want pets to do specific things anymore. I just want to use the pet I want to use, you know? if I want to teach my wolfhawk to give me leech and inflict mortal wounds on the target, let me do that

I enjoyed being able to choose my pet’s spec back in Legion. Still salty that they removed that.

Imagine being able to choose if it applies bleeds, uses slows, has a speed buff. Increases armor in lieu of damage. Rather then it just being assigned to specific pets you dont even wanna use.

A pet rework needs to happen for all 3 specs

  • Allow pets to be spec’d single target or aoe.
  • Allow the hunter to spec pets as DPS, Tank, or Utility.
  • Remove the pet “type” and allow the hunter to choose the pet skill they want (ferocity, Master’s Call, Fortitude of the Bear).
  • Allow MM and SV pets to beast cleave(this could be part of AOE pet spec)
  • Remove Lone Wolf, with above changes pets would be worth using again. The hunter is a pet class, the only issue is pets damage is so low that they are a dps loss for MM hunters. The above changes could remedy that.

I would say no to that. I’m all for pet utility, customisation etc for people who likes pets, but I prefer playing without a pet so dont take it away from me.

Yeah i would agree with Vedocorban on that one. The point of this idea is to open up all the different types of hunter pets. Not to force players to use pets when they do not wish to. MM should not have to use a pet, as they are more of a lone ranger build. It works for them, and is part of their class fantasy. Its just that beast masters not getting to choose what pets they use, is very much against all class fantasy

To add on to this, MM still ends up using pets a lot of the time, especially in PVP. Mortal wounds is just to valuable in comparison to the lone ranger talent. So MM players who want to use a pet are still able to, nothing stops them. They end up suffering from the same issue however as having to use the same pets as everyone else.

Don’t agree with this, beast cleave is like BM’s whole thing

Yeah I had to agree wit you Ashtelon. MM has its own AOE abilities that are very fun, with volley , ricochet and multi shot. Survival has its own abilities for that as well, with bombs being heavy aoe damage, Flurry, and applying serpent sting to everyone. The point of this post isn’t about changing how classes work or builds or anything like that. Its just about how hunters who want to and have to use pets, are forced to use one tiny subsection of pets to be viable in a lot of content. Why bother making new pet families, when they don’t have mortal wounds lol. It makes them a huge downgrade and anyone attempting to do better in content will not use them.
