I’ve been playing a mid level hunter and rogue a lot recently.
The game isn’t hard, but the Hunter survivability is WAY higher. There are fights with my Rogue that are pushing my chances of surviving where my Hunter can take win with just about no loss of health and only 10% loss of health on my pet.
So, considering game mechanics only, why does anyone play a rogue? Is lockpicking the main attraction, and PVP (which I don’t do)? Yes we can sneak around, but in a game where killing mobs = experience, the majority of the time you don’t want to bypass enemies anyway. Thematically though I understand why people would choose a rogue.
Note: I do not PVP. I imagine in PVP they can be fun (if one liked PVP that is).
Rogues are more entertaining.

No reason not to play a hunter right now.
They are beyond what is acceptable in the realm of balance, especially in PvP.
Yes, I do like my rogue, but as my post states consider game mechanics only. They don’t seem to have any advantages over Hunters.
I know of certain areas of the game where stealth can help in harvesting mats and other goodies.
Back in Burning Crusade, I leveled a tauren druid just to try out the hibiscus farm in the Underbog. It was an item that people traded in for rep, and you could sell them on the AH. Unfortunately, I was too late to really make gold that way. I’m terrible at gold making. lol

Hunters can stealth, it’s a talent and has a 1min cooldown.
Does hunter stealth last indefinitely?
The appeal of stealth farming is that you can avoid a lot of nasty encounters other classes cannot.
Nah, it lasts 1 minute and the cooldown starts when it ends, another minute.
But isn’t too bad considering you harvesting breaks stealth, can just use it when you need to pass mobs to reach the nodes.
Rogues have the most survivability in the game.
What are you smoking.
This is the stupidest thing I’ve read this month.

I would say paladins. Rogues in the open world have a chance to run away. Paladins can bubble hearth to safety.
I have rogues for pvp. I also pve as a rogue, not so much since they changed combat to outlaw and not since sub became weak.
Assassin bores me.
Rogues are fun but they’re the most dependent on both gear and weapons than any other class ingame, imo so til you get them up there, they’re kind of painful to play if you dislike dying.
I don’t mind dying so that doesn’t bother me.
Rogues are also great for gathering professions.

Clearly you’ve never played a hunter Humaniter. Imagine fighting enough mobs simultaneously with your rogue that you have difficulty surviving. You’ll find that same fight on your Hunter trivially easy, it’ll take no skill or effort to easily win the same fight.
I played both Assassination rogue and BM hunter.
BM Hunter is certainly a super strong pick if you’re going for solo content and beating party bosses by yourself, through heals, pet tanking and often self healing and more.
Rogue kills things very quickly IMO but falls behind Hunter in the levelling process because of not being ranged. At endgame the tons of utility and damage it brings makes it invaluable for parties and it shines a lot more in M+.
Hunter is the squishiest class.
Rogue has one of the most survivability in the game of any dps.
Clearly you’ve never played anything other than LFR Mahlaya
Feint is like 30 - 40% DR on a what? a 15 second CD?
Cheat death
Vanish
Evasion
Cloak - true immunity
Hunters have feign death which is clunky and doesnt work half the time and interacts differently with every abillity
Turtle which is a worst immunity in the game.
and a DR on 3 min CD tied to a pet.
Depends on the type of content you’re doing.
In the open world hunters do better, they’re designed to. In group content, rogues bring so much to the table and have so much survivability that m+ s4 has its entire gimmick centered around making rogues less desirable. Even then, they just got knocked down a peg from mandatory to really good.
Things that challenge my rogue are trivial for my Hunter. A fight that nearly like my figure, my Hunter can handle and not lost more than 10% of my health
Both are great in pve MM makes hunter a delete button class in pvp
Thats because the pet tanks for them, unlike Rogue (And just about every class besides Warlock)
Regardless, Rogue have a lot of defensive abilities that you gotta learn how to use.
Take in mind Hunters are actually really squishy, since they relay on their pet to take the dmg for them.
Hunters in general are the best when it comes to solo content, but when it comes to other stuff, its when things get more tricky, since you gotta watch out for other stuff, such has mechanics from bosses which your pet cant save you from.
