I know there are the 3 types of pets and they all do same damage.
But I’m new here and to Hunter. I have 3 pets right now. Two tenacity and one ferocity.
In call 1 slot is a tenacity and I’m guessing the bonus slot is the one with the attached line at the end is a ferocity.
Maybe because I don’t know but what kind of pets should I be getting and need? Do I need to fill every slot.
I’ve been on petopia also. I’m confused.
Really the big difference between pets are their special abilities and the shared big ability between the two of you.
Ferocity is the go-to for Hunters: Passive leech and gives access to the Hunter version of Heroism/Bloodlust/Time Warp/Aspects. Their pets usually have a Mortal Wound type effect that reduces healing received or snares a target.
Cunning is the go-to for PvP minded Hunters: Master’s Call is a great anti-CC ability you can use mostly on demand, and the extra movement speed is handy. Their special abilities go across the board in hampering foes or increasing survivability.
Tenacity is the go-to pet for soloing content. They have abilities to absorb more damage and their shared ability gives you and them a big HP bonus for a time. Their special abilities focus on survivability.
You can switch and choose depending on the situation. Even MM Hunters, who benefit most from not having a pet, usually use a cunning pet in PvP for the utility for example.
There are two main things that usually determine which pet you want to use at any give time.
1 - Pet spec.
Ferocity spec pets give you and your pet bonus leech, and access to Bloodlust.
Tenacity pets give you and your pet bonus HP, and access to a defensive CD.
Cunning pets give you and your pet bonus movement speed, and a CD that removes roots and snares.
Under normal circumstances, ferocity is the go to solo spec for most open world content, tenacity is the go to dungeon/raid spec (unless you’re the only source of Bloodlust in the group, in which case you use a ferocity pet when needed), and cunning is the go to PvP spec.
2 - Family abilities
These are the abilities specific to certain pet types. e.g. Bats can dispel themselves, bears have a personal defensive CD, hyenas have Mortal Strike, etc.
For solo you generally want a pet that a defensive ability of some sort. This is why people often recommend Scalehides and Clefthooves. They’re ferocity spec, but also have good defensive abilities, making them especially good for tanking.
For PvP you want a Mortal Strike pet. Mortal Strike is simply the best PvP ability in pretty much all situations.
For dungeons it doesn’t really matter.
(Secret option number 3
Forget all of the above and use whichever pet you think looks the coolest.)
Truth be told, you should only NEED one of each spec. Also depends on your actual spec. If I’m being honest, I mostly use Wolves, I like their aesthetic, they’re all over the world, and I enjoy the snare “Furious Bite”. It works well against runners and provides some additional kiting when needed.
But as the above poster mentioned, just get the one that looks the coolest and vibes with you the most.
I’d recommend going to Petopia and finding one you really want and go tame it.
