Hunter Taming Skills Suggestion

With all the different books we can get as hunters to tame different pet families (mechanical, direhorn, blood beast, undead, cloud serpents), would it be possible to add some indicator in-game to show what you’ve already learned? We have a weapon skills listing in the spellbook already, and I’m thinking something like that where it lists the families you know how to tame in one ability. As someone with several alts, I don’t know of an easy way to confirm if I’ve taught my second or third hunter the ability to tame these families.

If this functionality already exists somewhere, and I’m just a blind idiot, I’d appreciate knowing that too.

I’m just blind guessing here, but two thoughts:

  1. WoWHead might track the collected tomes if you link your Battle.net account. I could have sworn it tracked some of that hidden stuff for others aspects of the game.
  2. AllTheThings (mod) may track this as well.

Again, just taking a guess at where you may find this sort of information. On that note, I do agree there should be a better way to track this in-game. Good idea!

Needs to be on the spellbook because Cloud Serpents can be learned by non-Hunters, which unlocks it account wide. If you got exalted Cloud Serpents on a Monk, you can buy the book on the Monk, and mail it to your Hunter, but the Hunter can’t use it, because the book requires Exalted Cloud Serpents to use. Instead, the Monk buys it, the Monk uses it, and the Hunter can magically tame a Cloud Serpent.

This means it’s an account wide unlock rather than per character and there might not be a way for WoWhead to track it.

Contrast with Dinomancy, Mechanicals, and Undead, all of which need to be learned per-Hunter.

Well that was a dumb way to configure that…

Literally every other system like that has required the rep to purchase the BoA item, but not to use it. It’s like Blizzard is actively trying to find dumber ways to do things.

In their defense, this method means you only need to buy and use the book once per account, rather than once per Hunter.

Making it BoA and not consume on use would also solve this, but then you need to remember which Hunter has the book.

I would have removed the rep restriction for use, but being able to use it on any character and unlock it account wide is actually nice.

Oh, that’s fair. Still feels…well, counter-intuitive.

Anyway, your core point is correct, we badly need some indication in either our spellbook or our stable window or somewhere (like a “passive” in our normal non-spec hunter spellbook tab that lists the tomed creatures we’ve unlocked for that character) to tell use which ones we’ve collected and know how to tame.

Yep, I mean, BM has the passive trait in the spellbook showing how we can tame Exotic Beasts.

It’s only logical that we should be able to see what other things we’ve learned as well.

Edit: I’m not currently in the game but, the perk of being able to tame Exotic Beasts is also displayed as a core perk/feature when looking at the Beast Master specializations window, isn’t it?

Exactly. Anyway, tweeted it at Ion, feel free to rt or ping him as well, maybe we can make enough noise for him to notice.

You don’t need to mail it to your hunter. In your example, your Monk who was exalted could buy it and learn it, and then all hunters on your account would be able to tame Cloud Serpents.

Don’t stop reading halfway through if you’re going to try to correct someone.
