Hunter survival vs marksman input appreciated

I know I know, marksman is just supposed to be plain better but hear me out…

Bosses die really fast. I rarely see a IAotH proc in raid that I actually get to take advantage of the full duration. Managing my pet and keeping him alive is a pain in my butt.

Based on this would running Survival/lightning reflexes potentially be better? I am thinking just based off the 4.5%ish higher crit rate for additional burst potential may overcome the 15% multi strike damage and 5% ranged weapon damage? Especially on something like Firemaw where I can only get in actual dps for short amounts of time.

A lot of the utility talents in survival are fantastic. Entrapment, Survivalist, Deterrence, Imp FD, and Surefooted all have their uses.

Not taking into account the lack of potentially providing 4 other players with TSA. Also assuming about half the time I may be able to swindle my way into a group with another hunter to let me leech off their TSA.

Perhaps I’m just trying to justify being able to use a more fun pvp/dm:n tribute spec in a raid environment. Regardless I’d like to have a discussion and any advice/input about this. Thanks!

Survival is theoretically better personal DPS, while MM is definitively better raid DPS. Your personal parses don’t really matter anyway, since you’re just there for Trueshot Aura and Tranq Shot in high end raids.

You can also just play Marksman with Survival instead of BM talents, you can go all the way up to Surefooted and Imp Feign with 0/31/20 and it’s not like you lose much DPS due to how anti-pet most fights are especially in BWL.

You’ll pay for the respec with just an hour or two of DM-T runs anyway, so it’s not that big of an issue. I usually swap to Survival after raid nights just because it’s annoying to spend 1/5th of my mana pool rebuffing Trueshot all the time.

I think surv is a lot more fun tbh, esp in a pvp setting. 0-21-30 is prolly my favorite hunter pvp build.
