Looking at the Dps charts, BM isnt doing so hot rn, but I wanna tame exotic pets cause I like the pet collecting. Do you keep your exotic hunter pets, if you’ve already tamed them, when you switch specs?
Any pets you have tamed you do keep while switching specs, you just won’t be able to bring out any exotic pets and won’t be able to tame them while as mm.

Marksman doesnt use pets, they get lone wolf. Also no, you have to be bm to use exotic pets. Its a perk of the spec.

Well for solo content I imagine mm might bring out a pet simply for tanking purposes but otherwise yeah no need for one.

I like bm too, the pet AI doesn’t bother me,
sadly blizzard decided to nerf it by 35% in total in under a year.
MM is much better these days ive been trying not to be a switch-baby but im almost forced too.
I just switched on my Hunter from BM to MM. You don’t lose any pets, even exotic pets. But you can’t tame more exotic pets unless you change back to BM and you can’t call an exotic pet. You’ll absolutely need to visit a stable to switch out your exotics.

When solo questing as MM you’ll notice that your pet will have more difficulty holding aggro tanking for you. BM pets do more damage than the Hunter and holding aggro is easy, but MM damage is way more than your pet and your pet doesn’t have Stomp for additional threat. Make sure you’re using Misdirection to your pet whenever possible and even then you may need to Feign Death to drop aggro at some point.
In pve BM Hunter’s do really well, I know on the super high end they don’t perform as well as other specs but at the end I play, I often top the raid/m+ dps charts or just behind the top.
But in pvp bm is terrible. The damage output is low and burst is laughable and if anyone cc’s your pet you either blow an important cd or you’re completely hosed.
MM can function well in pvp with or without a pet and it’s burst is great. It’s so satisfying to see kills where before I struggled to just get noticed. The only downside is that I get targeted way faster now.

The ones that are with you become unusable until you go BM again, and you’ll have to swap out, but you don’t lose them.
