You’re welcome.
This doesn’t tell them how to train new abilities, and that resistances, armour, stamina and growl ranks come from a pet trainer.
But it tells them exactly how to stop shooting 2 times and melee for the rest of the fight.
This is by far the best thing posted to a hunter on this forum bar none.
You dont realize how often i have to tell these guys to use growl they tell me i havent tamed a pet with it yet,…
I haven’t really run into anyone with that issue. I do run into Warriors still using Rend at higher levels, though…
I got to level 20 without knowing that you train growl at all. I just assumed it was there by default like in retail. Seeing this thread would have saved me a lot of time haha.
I’m confused, you ‘want’ hunters to have growl on??? What universe are we living in?
So many players try to back seat drive and tell a hunter what to do. Does this ever work?
He may be referring to the all the threads on training pets to have growl. Of course, once you do that, that ability needs to be moved from the book to the pet bar (if it doesn’t automatically show up) so it can be right-clicked and turned off when in a group with a tank in it. Out in the world, however, it needs to be on so the pet can act as the hunter’s tank.
Last year, I was playing as a warlock on Northdale and I grouped up with a hunter to do the Bael Modan quest in the Southern Barrens. On that pserver, mobs hit a lot harder and the dynamic respawns were brutal. The hunter was Chinese and could not speak English so we communicated by emotes. That system did me no good as I watched him get wrecked time and again when mobs rushed him because his wolf obviously didn’t have Growl trained. The poor guy died over and over and I had no way to tell him how to fix the problem.
So the actual content of your post is this.
Hunters get pet abilities from pet trainers and taming certain pets. You can teach pet trainer abilities to any new or current pet. Growl is an ability that tamed pets don’t start with and is found at the pet trainer. Once you buy growl at the pet trainer you must train that ability to your current pet. To do this you must open you spell book, find the beast training ability and use it. Then scroll through the window and select the growl ability. Hit train at the bottom right and you’re almost done. Once trained the ability is learned but not on the pet hotbar. Make sure your current pet is active, and open the spellbook again. At the bottom of the book is a pet tab, select this. Now you are viewing your pet abilities. Drag the growl ability from here to your pet hotbar. Now that you can easily access growl from the pet hotbar you have the option of quickly toggling the ability on and off in dungeons.

A nice description of the horribly convoluted and at time untterly unintuitive UI that hunters had to deal with.
Pet management was a great mechanic that sadly suffered in the great dumbing-down which started in BC, but sadly the UI for it was atrocious.
You should know by now that Hunters can’t read.
