Hunter Pets

They should really give us back the ability to change pet specialization, also since all the family abilities are so generic now and quite frankly any pet would be able to use any of them we should be able to change that as well. Basically if you like a pet you can use it regardless of the content. Exotics should keep their unique abilities the way they are but maybe be able to change the generic ones.

I still always find it ironic that the stated reason for removing the ability to change pet specs was to increase pet diversity.

the real reason was pvp whiners

Made an identical post just like this pretty recently and explained why it was illogical of them to make this awful change in BFA

Customization is an important aspect of modern WoW, this aspect being so restricted make no sense…

Hi, why did they whine ?

It’s especially funny, because “secret mortal wounds turtles” were never a thing in the first place. Even back in the days of pet specs, family abilities still existed.

And how - with that pet spec paradigm - did we end up with ferocity cledthooves?

This quote answers exactly why pets are locked to a family. A developer was in a PvP match saw a pet, and it was expected based on looks to be tanking type pet. However, it was actually cunning and was unable except that they could not anticipate what that pet’s abilities were.

They made pet locked in to families that way they knew a head what abilities they used, and how they could counter them.

Family abilities have existed basically forever though.

Yeah, you may not have know what spec the pet was (though in PvP you could pretty much guarantee it was cunning), but you always knew what the family ability was. No one ever looked at a turtle and wondered if it secretly had Mortal Wounds.

If you are in PvP wouldn’t you automatically assume that the pet is cunning and the ability is mortal wounds? Almost all the hunters in PvP that aren’t BM that I see are running with a raptor.

Undead Raptor are immune to the following CC’s: Scare Beast/Hibernate/Polymorph/Sap/Hex.

Undead pets can be CC’d by Shackle Undead, Turn Evil and Wake of Ashes.

Undead have benefits that normal pets don’t have that give them an edge in pvp. Paladin or Priest will be the issue, but if they don’t know to stop an undead pet it worth it.

It wouldn’t be too bad if all the abilities were useful but… some are either just worse versions of other skills or sometimes almost useless entirely like dispel.

It’s kind of staggering that a dev was that mad cuz bad at their own game over getting outplayed by a mere hunter’s pet and nothing else, that they just felt the need to give the pet system a whole revamp.

But then again, I guess its not uncommon for WoW devs to be bad at their own game hence why we haven’t seen true class balancing since MoP, arguably Legion.
