Hunter pets

Howdy! I’m none too good with words but I wanted to ask you folks about Hunter pets. Do you have to go for the absolute optimal pet to be competitive in PVE or PVP?

I’ve watched a few videos saying pets like Broken Tooth are optimal for pvp but I sort of don’t want to be forced into having a specific pet. I personally want to tame a boar because they’re awesome but I don’t want to be at a huge disadvantage because of picking a pet that I like opposed to the optimal pet.

Well for PVE it’s not as big of a deal but for PVP attack speed really does kind of matter because its spell pushback vs casters.

Boars are only 2.0 swing timer which is the slowest in vanilla so I would say don’t use it if you want to PVP sorry >.<

There are other 1.0 attack speed pets besides brokentooth if you are worried about camping a rarespawn when ZG comes out or you can just use a normal everyday 1.2 attack speed pet.

edit: sorry I didn’t actually read the post well enough :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea Brokentooth is only highly regarded because of his attack speed which is only useful against casters for spell knockback.

Like Vol said there are other pets out there with similar speeds but they are all mainly in the cat/wolf family.

A boar is a great tanky pet and the charge is a great quick snare in PvP.

I’d look up different pet families as different pets have different stat modifiers. Like Boars have an armor increase but a -10% to their dps and Cats have no +/- to armor but a -2% to health and +10% dps modifier.

So all Cats have the same base dps but a 1.1 AS Cat will do faster softer damage and a 2.0 will be slower but harder hitting but still = out to the same dps and that carries over to all pets within a Family that have varying attack speeds.

I think there were bears with higher than 2.0 attack speeds like 2.4 or .5
