If you take MD. I don’t think most raiding or m+ specs recommend you take that talent.
Not sure why it needs to be a talented ability when we always got it for being a Hunter…

I have found it to be a bug with the pets attacks. I have used this macro for every shot i have on my bar. It has helped a ton since this problem showed up a couple expacs ago.

Works like a charm.

What I do is I use that macro that Rita gave you and I macro it to every ability I have basically. Misdirect doesn’t trigger the global, that way misdirect is going off every time it gets off cooldown without me even thinking about it.
If you want to do dungeons add [@focus,help] right after the /cast in that macro and when you get in a dungeon set the tank to your focus and it will misdirect to them instead of your pet.
Everything else is mostly gear related. Your pet’s agro is dependant on the amount of damage it is doing. The more damage the better the agro and your pet’s damage is dependant on your gear. So concentrate on skills that make your pet do more damage and get the Stomp tallent, that is essential for group agro. On top of that you should be hitting mend pet on cool down.
My hunter is at a 387 item level and I have no problem at all holding agro and staying alive as well as any tank on anything short of a World Boss in the open world.
This is most often a bug when you level. If you level up in the dungeon it will turn growl back on even if it still shows it as off on your pet bar. It’s a good habit to get into when you level in a dungeon, click growl on then off again.

I mean MD can def be useful in both situations, specially M+ but even in raids i remember MDing some bosses to Tanks to help with positioning.
But even if its off meta now (idk since i haven’t played my Hunter in DF yet) can always just have a questing loadout that has it specced.

Right? I was thinking of going back to my MM hunter in TWW but the changes they were making with MM I am really hesitant. If the pet is this squishy and them ruining Lone Wolf to 5% and making it a talent, forcing us to require a pet they better make it less manage able. It really is a hassle sometimes just for a Lust option. Its not hard to hit dismiss pet then hit lust during the dismiss pet cast, but it just seems they are trying to kill the hunter completely now.

You just aren’t doing it right.
DPS are supposed to wait until the tank has pulled the mobs, ran a lap around the room, ramped up to 300k dps on the meters, and then rolled out the red carpet for them to attack.
Otherwise this is just a DPS skill issue. /s
The OP was a year ago, so chances are their lack of threat isn’t a problem anymore.
Having said that, VW holding threat is still problematical.

I see this is a necro, but I’m also experiencing this. Just logged back into Retail for the first time in a year. Hunter with my crap 454 ilvl. I never never pulled aggro off my pets before. Now with the same spec, same gear as a year ago, I’m pulling off them constantly. Yes, auto taunt is on. Annoying, but Blizz has only had 20 years to figure things out, so I just roll with it.

Are you guys playing as MM? Have not encountered any pet aggro issues as SV, and hard to imagine it would be one as BM.
Is your weapon a low ilvl? They made pet special attacks scale based on weapon attack power sometime in DF–low agility, low damage, low aggro?
What pets are you using? Have you found this to be consistent with all pets, or just 1?

If your on a boss (which is immune to agro) you must watch your threat (built into default target frame). Open with Kill command twice, barb shot then use misdirect and whale and it should be able to keep agro until your next misdirection.
Yes it’s not like it was previously where tanks/pet had massive agro generators, people need to actually watch their threat these days (not as bad as classic though)
The inevitable new expansion breaking of pets. It’s almost a tradition now.

I swapped to demo and use the other pet and it seems to be less of an issue.

The only Spec that is still true hunter is MM… Surv is melee and is an abomination. They ruined my spec when the made it melee.
