Hunter pets at level 5, where are they?

I spent over an hour searching for this answer… I’m sure it’s really simple and I’ll look like an idiot for asking, but I shall take that chance.

I made a hunter goblin today, beast mastery… when I reached level 5, I received all the pet deals: feed, heal, revive, tame, etc… but there isn’t a pet anywhere. I click on the “call pet” option and it says “You don’t have a pet.”

Do they not automatically appear anymore? Thanx in advance.

Is this in the baby Goblin starting area of the new zone for all wee toons?

If it’s in Exiles Reach - you get your first pet via a quest. If it’s the Goblin starting area, did your pet die accidentally?

If you started in Exiles reach you get a quest specifically to tame a beast.

If you started in the normal area i’m pretty sure you’re suppose to spawn with a pet at level 1.

I started in the regular goblin zone, not Exiles Reach. There was no pet to begin with. So I decided to see if it happened with another char so I made an orc (regular one), and same thing: level 5, no pet.

Hmm. Sounds like there may be an issue because of there being a quest in exile’s reach. Right now, I’d suggest you just go out and tame something. I mean, that’s what I had to do back in the day (at level 10). My first pet ended up being Mazzranache because I ran into him when I was making my way to Thunder Bluff for a quest.

Dwarf didn’t get one either. I just found a couple to tame when I got to Elwynn. Got lucky and found a couple beginner rares.

So, I looked up starter pets as a forum topic and saw there is this thread in the bug reports:
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/1st-level-undead-hunter-missing-starter-pet-patch-901/683029

It seems to be a change that isn’t documented. As some of the posters in the thread suggested, since only veteran players can use the old zones, maybe Blizz figured you’d know to go tame a pet yourself. Of course, if you’ve never played hunter, this might not be so clear a step. I recommend putting in a ticket just to remind them it’s something that should be addressed.

Yup, I made a new baby hunter and there is no starting pet anymore. Which makes me very sad since the Gnome one was the mechanical bunny (otherwise a rather rare spawn).

At level five you get to tame one though, so at least they left that in lol.

You don’t anymore (non allied races), I was really confused. I’ve recently made a troll and undead hunter re experience their starting areas. You hit level 5, and get all the abilities spam added to your hotbar. No pet included.

Mashed the call pet icon a few dozen times, decided they expect me to just go out and find my own. So I did.

oh im gonna have to test this with vulpera becauise vulpera started with a pet you CANNOT get anywhere else in the game unless you start as a vulpera hunter

allied races still start with thier pet

Yeah, the low level “Rares” aren’t all that rare when you know where to look. Jasp mine is almost guaranteed to have the spider.

Ya you just tame one.
In the old days that’s how it went. You started with no pet and had to tame one as a sort of right of passage as a hunter.

Its a ranged spell now though so no longer anything to be concerned over doing.

Try checking the stables too to be sure. It is weird there is no pet if you haven’t start Exile’s Reach… Definitely sounds like a oversight for Blizzard for sure.

This is interesting. Thanks for the info.

The pink flamingo! lol… I’ve tamed Mazzranache many times.

In the old days (vanilla) that was not how it went. You did level 1 - 10 solo, once you hit 10 the hunter trainer had a quest to go and tame 1 pet, using a pet taming wand. You did this with 3 different species (night elf for example tamed a spider, owl, and cat). After that you unlocked the stuff like feed pet, and the such by running from that chain to your main races capitol trainers. The game didn’t just toss all the abilities at you and say GOOD LUCK!

A few expansions later they decided everyone should just start with a pet at level 1. With Shadowlands PrePatch it is level 5, with really no explanation, no pet to start you out (like the character select screen might make you believe). Fine if you are a seasoned player.

Same thing with the druid forms being tossed over to the barber (you unlock your legion owl form now, it is no longer auto swapped to said form), there should be some sort of pop up when it happens the first time.

that be almost as cute as Hati wearing a fez.

I’ve said “death comes for you, and it wears a fez” with him quite a few times I have to admit.
