Hunter Pet

Is there an early level pet that sticks out as the best? Is it easily accessible to a NE Hunter?

The owl. Easy pick here. Even horde die to get it from NE start zone.

Owls in Teldrassil are best leveling pet.

Zalezy co chcesz…Kot bije mozniej, Niedzwiedzie sa odporniejsze.

Owl’s. Only Night Elves have easy access to Owls at this low a level, and the Owl has +7% damage with no loss to armor or health.

Pets have:

  • Armor
  • Health
  • Damage

Different families get different ratios. Some get +10% damage but minus health or armor, some get bonus armor and health but less damage, etc. Owls get the most bonus damage with the least drawbacks of all, and they get swoop (charge) and screech (AoE) if you learn screech from the westfall vulture things.

Just be sure to keep meat around, as owls only eat meat and not fish.

Change of plans as I’ve now rerolled on a new server and am now playing horde. Same question though. What pet is best for early horde leveling. (Orc)

Wolves in Mulgore.

There is only two (maybe 3) that I care about. Humar (slow but hits like a truck), Ghost kitty (Only spirit cat to exist in vanilla) and Echeyakee. The latter is an iffy for me right now but the first two are a must.

If you are NE hunter, Echeyakee is hard to get unless you have a Horde friend. The other 2 can absolutely be gotten by a NE.

(I like cats…>_> lol)

Humar has a 1.3 speed

I meant he is slow compared to, like say, Broken Tooth.

The Rake (rare) has a 1.2 attack speed and is available at lvl 10. (outside Thunderbluff, a quick Google search will tell you more)
Durotar Tigers (on the islands across the water from Sen’jin Village) have an attack speed of 1.3 are lvls 7-8.
These cats are great for PvP and early solo’ing. Make sure you train them right! Before you tame your “go to” pet, tame a pygmy surf crawler. Then pick a fight by sending in your pet, spam “claw” on your pet bar until you get the message “you have learned the ability claw”. You can’t miss it, it’s in yellow text. Then, abandon the pet. Next, go and tame a Dreadmaw Crocolisk, and do the same as above only this time, you’re spamming “bite”. Abandon the croc. Now go tame your cat. Shoot for a lvl 8. Now you can teach your cat the abilities you just learned from the previous pets.

Owl but it’s recommend you tame one of the vultures in West Fall so you can learn the screech ability, then teach that to your owl. Also, don’t forget to feed your pet or it’ll run away.

owls eat fish irl, major oversight there blizz :disappointed_relieved:

I wish they would let us have a pet fish. It would only work vs. aquatic mobs, and our entire play sessions would have to be near water, but still. Fish. Awesome.

As horde and once as alliance I always tame echeyakee a lvl 16-18 quest spawn in the barrens (white lion) but thats just me

I’d just get a boar. Very low maintenance. They eat any kind of food you can get, so you never have to worry if a vendor will have something they will eat, and you can give them any meat or fish drops, or any bread or fruit you get in a chest. They’ll eat your cactus apple surprise. They’re like little garbage disposals.

Boars. Boars are great tanking pets, they have above average armour, special ability that’ll slow an enemy target that’ll help them close the distance between them and the target with boar charge. That charge will allow you to keep your distance and rain arrows down on your target. Owls are good, sure, but I prefer boars.
