I noticed last night that I was starting to pull threat off my pet cat. I looked around and realized he’s two levels lower than me when it’s usually one level or he’s the same level. Turns out, instead of getting around 110% of the XP I make per kill he’s getting 55% of the XP I get.
This isn’t a game breaker, but it is an inconvenience. I imagine it was an oversight which would be really nice if it were fixed.
Unfortunately, that’s pretty standard - Pets get 100% of your mob kill XP (not your quest XP), and never benefit from modifiers such as rested. The upside is, they have 1/4 the amount of XP needed to level.
It’s my perception that it isn’t an oversight. Pets are a powerful addition to the hunter’s arsenal. They’ve always been 1/3rd to 1/2 behind the hunter level-wise. It makes things more ‘interesting’.
It may be that, if you are < level 40, the experience buff is causing you problems. Even if you stop questing and grind mobs, your pet will likely lose ground until you get to 40 and lose the buff.
Pets only need like half of your exp to lvl.
Means if hit 15, from 15-16. The first half your pet will be leveled from 14-15. And it will stay 15 for the second of if your journey
