Hey everyone.
This info is so hard to track down, ambiguous at best.
My best guess is pets scale with your character level and your mastery if you are a bm.
Ilvl seems to make no difference and neither do stats thus far although to test all I did was take my armor off and there seemed to be no difference in damage dealt.
Any help on this info would really help me know how to build my hunter and be very appreciated

Suggestion One, never ask in forums you will not get a real answer, or you’ll get something incredibly dumb at best. Besides you are in General Discussion and should be in the Hunter section.
Suggestion Two, BM is the most mindless spec in the game.

In retail, pets scale with your level.
Petopia has some great information on Hunter pets, as well as a friendly forum full of hunters.
The only really difference in pets is their spec and abilities that some species come with. So looking into which pet family and species is best for you is a great first step.
A tank pet works well leveling up. But I have always leaned toward cats, just a preference.
Keep mend pet on a hot bar to keep it alive.
When you get misdirect there’s a one touch macro that dumps aggro on your pet or the tank you set focus on. Very handy for groups.
Later, get a spirit pet for the extra heal.
If you spec it right, you should rarely get hit. Send it in first and your pet should tank everything, you just hang back and pew pew pew.
