Hunter pet question

I’ve mostly played Beast Mastery so far. I know they’re the only spec that gets access to exotic pets. Are exotic pets actually any better than their normal counterparts or is it just a vanity thing?

Yes only BM Hunters after 39 can tame them.
They do still have special abilities like healing and dispelling buffs.
Each one has its own ability.

Thank you, that was very helpful  Does the second pet that appears from using a talent benefit if it’s also an exotic, or just your main pet?

That I don’t remember , have not played my Hunters in a while.

(Leagon swap blaster) is the tool to use to have same pets, but not sure if it matters.

Hati

Hati is spirit beast that resembles Skoll in a lighter shade of blue (side note: Hati and Skoll are brothers in Norse mythology). Hati does not replace your primary pet, this is an actual secondary pet you will have at your side as long as Titanstrike is equipped. Dual.

Like is said … After you get Titanstrike you earn a spell that lets you make the same pet again. Sorry if the name of the tool is wrong.

Just your main pet. Second pet only does auto-attacks, it doesn’t use any special abilities.

Blizzard typically changes their mind about what they expect from pets each time a new expansion is released. The net result, is usually that there is usually one pet family that is considered “best” for a specific type of content or role.

Spirit Beasts were the goto pets for dungeons/raids for a couple of expansions due to their ability to heal party members. Nerfs to the amount of healing they do in this expansion made them a poor choice when compared to the dps gain from using some other pet families.

Note that for the past few expansions, Ferocity pets make better tanks than Tenacity pets and Cunning pets are almost always preferred for PvP although exotics with Mortal Wounds are also popular. Also, if just questing, you can pretty much get to SL content using any pet without feeling that your choice of pet is holding you back.

Currently, most hunters would choose the clefthoof/rhino family as being the best pets for leveling and group content as a BM and probably any family with the Lust ability for non-BM.

Before gaining Exotic Pets, I find personally find Ferocity Scalehides to be good tanking pets that hit hard and wolves with their haste buff to be good group content pets. However, I’m quite likely to run quests with any ferocity pets that match my transmog. I’m partial towards ravagers and cats.

EDIT: This guy runs with a pair of Loque spirit beasts just for the looks but If I take him to SL, where content tends to be tough, He’ll use a pair of Rhino’s.
