Hunter pet growl is almost useless

Well yes if the tank and healer have a brain there should be minimal issues, sometimes things go wrong and you all need to think on your feet, but is it true though that taunt really doesn’t do much on bosses?

I should be right to taunt on mobs say for Fort and Nerotic week to help the tank drops stacks on those pesky mobs that can’t be slowed, or even use traps for that, but it is the apparent non taunt on bosses that I am worried about and need to think about planning for.

Keep in mind that the 10% damage buff does not apply automatically. It starts at 1% and slowly increases to 10%.

I didn’t brag about anything. I proved that M11 can be tanked with a lower item level than you get from M5.

Provably false. You’re almost as bad as Neckbeard. The Raider pages I linked were my alts, who have all done more than three M10s each.

My main has timed 70 M10s so far this season and was 5/9M in BoD. You killed one more boss than me (and only one time) because I only do PUGs. Only doing PUGs means that M EP is not available to me yet.

Neckbeard’s clear implication is that the pet should be sharing in the tank duty full time because it’s helpful. No it isn’t. For multiple reasons.

1: Most tanks actually have a DPS increase from being attacked. Pulling mobs off of them lowers their damage do.

2: Pets do not appropriate position mobs. This is applicable to both affixes (Sanguine, for example) and DPS’ abilities/traits (Dagger in the Back).

3: Pets do not typically get a party frame and will not receive healing. A hunter pet is a large portion of the hunter’s damage and losing the pet is bad. You would never want to do this outside of an emergency.

You shouldn’t be getting into that situation. It means you screwed up. You’re meant to learn to not do whatever it was you did.

If you really want to help fix the situation, use your many other abilities. A pet taunt isn’t your only solution.

This. People need to know their WoW history. Aspect of the Dazed was another one they eventually more or less disabled.

Pet growls should have to be manually cast and not be on a toggled auto-taunt.

But when you do get into that situation? Not all runs are 100% perfect where no one dies and nothing else out of the ordinary needs to happen to get past it. YOu sound like you have never been on a run that something goes wrong, which is never the case, there is always something out of the ordinary that can occur in runs.

growl turns off automatically in a group.

This is interesting to know, I had no idea this was the case and no one has ever mentioned it before that I can find. Thank you for the input.

Isn’t growl disabled in LFDs?

My hunter always has growl on. I never use barrage because I hate the added aggro from mobs I really don’t care to stick around and kill.

When I use LFG for quests, I have no clue what happens with taunt at that point. I was told that it auto-turned off in groups and raids. Sometimes my pet holds aggro and sometimes he doesn’t. As long as the quest mob dies, all is good and I leave group.

Kinda. Most bosses are immune to Hunter/Warlock pet growl, and it’s turned off by default in dungeons.

But you still can technically use it.

Growl should only be used for solo content and if it is used in group content it should only be open world content like world bosses and such not instance content.

Stronger, unless I start the encounter I’ll have pets pull aggro off me.

Not sure how OP is having taunt issues unless there is a bug, that said I’m sure I read a similar thread recently. So who knows?

I tried using Growl to get a boss off me. It didn’t work. I died.

Somewhat agree, in the case of trying to solo or there is no actual tank in the group. However, if there is an actual tank in the group, hunters with Growl on auto-cast should have their pets one-shot and be unable to rez the pet for 5-10 minutes.

I want good/smart hunters to be able to use their utility and help the group out if needed yet HunTARDS need to be forced to learn how to work in groups.

The main things tanks have against pet/minion tanks is they make it hard to position the mobs/boss so that DPS does not get whacked by cleaves/frontal cone attacks/etc, move them from Sanguine or things you DON’T want them to stand in and in order to effectively tank, the tank often needs to be the one getting attacked due to things like rage generation, procs from getting hit/avoiding a hit (dodge/parry/block), reflective damage, etc.

To be honest when it is a world boss it doesn’t really matter because it is usually a spank fest . People getting mad about pet growl affecting the bot in mechagon is a joke when all you have to do is make a key and walk up to it

not as a taunt

Speaking as someone who is leveling a tank in dungeons currently…

PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PET TAUNT IN DUNGEONS.
Thanks
