Hunter pet growl is almost useless

I’ve noticed that it turns itself back on when you level, despite the icon glow not being there. Had to enable/disable it again to turn it off.

That was fun especially on the train dungeon in WoD.

I tried to not use it unless I am well behind the group but I cringed when I see other hunters run right next to the mob and open fire, pulling more in.

Yar, lots of bugs with the autoturn off of growl. I try to be mindful whenever first joining LFD. But sometimes I forget and then I see the Boss swap aggro and growl shows it’s on CD and I facepalm.

that’s the point. it’s not supposed to replace a real taunt.

Works on Classic ^_-

The thing about wanting hunters to be able to taunt bosses is generally speaking, y’all don’t actually control where your pet goes. You just tell it to smack a target. Bosses often need to be positioned in certain ways.

  • Like King’s Rest, where you need to pull the first boss away from the chasing blobs which will give it a huge absorb.
  • Or King’s Rest, where the second boss runs off to a tomb, we actually want him to come back to the group, not sit there on your pet who has chased him into a corner.
  • Or King’s Rest, where axes are easiest to dodge on the third boss if you hold him in the centre of the room
  • Or King’s Rest, where the fourth boss is much easier if pulled around to the right about 90 degrees

Or all those bosses that need to be pulled out of ground goo. Even if you guys did control where your pets tank, it would be way more difficult, because the pet command interface just isn’t that good.

And that’s why, in a group, you are supposed to have Growl turned off. Hunter 101, learned in the first instance a hunter runs that has a tank. It’s an emergency-only pet skill in instanced content and always has been.

They removed it cause too many people got their feelings hurt by growl, not to mention aspect of the pack

What he said.

Yes it does and it’s still really bad form to use it unless there’s a panic situation like yanking trash mob heal-agg off your healer.

Keep it off in dungeons unless the tank asks for it or dies. Never been a problem for me and I main a hunter. There is a bug that will cause your pet to taunt in dungeons even with it off that can be a pain, all you have to do is dismiss and re-summon.

Sets apart the goods from the bads

I have seen people still cry that my hunters pet has growl on, yep, AFTER the change were growl is turned off when hunters enter a dungeon.

Personally, this is why I wouldn’t bother trying to be nice, let the group die and leave. I hate saying this, but small things like preventing growl can help brew more toxic players or players who really end up caring less about others.

bosses are immune to taunt if there is a tank roll player alive once that person dies the pet can gain aggro but still hit and miss

It’s fun until you find a tank who has no brain. I took it and had no idea of the range that thing had, went into Iron docks, popped it at the start when I was like 2 feet from the tank, god damn that range.

Growl isn’t a real taunt in Classic.

Ive mained as a Tank spec since ive started WoW and ive never been annoyed about a pet sharing some of the aggro. I literally have no idea why it upsets some people, maybe it just hurts their pride, I dunno. If a pet has aggro all it does is make me have to tank through less dmg and for the healer to not have to heal as much. I have seriously never understood the issue.

Because positioning matters and pets mess it up.

If you don’t understand that, you’re a bad tank who needs the help and I wouldn’t expect someone like you to care.

I do mythic+ 10 and beyond and up to Mythic raids, so if I don’t have an issue with it literally ever maybe its not the pet that messes things up maybe its you and you need to learn to work with pets better because all they do is help and make things easier.

Because that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

Except for when it bugs out and doesn’t actually turn off, eventhough it looks like it’s off on your bars.
